The Brandon Wheat Kings will bring the curtain down on the first half of their 2005-06 Western Hockey League regular season schedule Friday night when they play host to Brent Sutter-less Red Deer Rebels at the Keystone Centre.

The Rebels' bench will be handled by assistant coaches Dallas Gaume and Jesse Wallin in the absence of Sutter, who is currently in Vancouver helping the National Junior Team prepare for the upcoming World Junior Hockey Championships.

While the Wheat Kings enter Friday's game, hoping to snap a 2-game losing streak and climb into a fourth place tie with the Prince Albert Raiders in the Eastern Division, the Rebels will be hoping to extend a streak that has seen them collect at least a point in three straight games to pull to within two points of fourth place Swift Current in the Central Division.

Red Deer is currently 10-20-1-3 this year while the defending Eastern Conference Champion Wheat Kings are 9-19-4-1.

In the only game played between these two teams this season, Red Deer was an easy 9-4 victory back on October 11th.

Friday's game will mark the first ever meeting between Derek and Devon LeBlanc at the Keystone Centre. While Derek is currently in his third season with the Wheat Kings, his 17-year old brother Devon has played 31 games in this, his rookie season in the WHL.

While Derek currently leads the Wheat Kings in scoring with eleven goals and 23 points in 33 games, brother Devon has one goal and three points while accumulating ten minutes in penalties. Devon was an eleventh round selection of the Rebels in the 2003 WHL bantam draft.

Brandon hasn't played since last weekend when they dropped the first two of this current home stand - dropping a 4-1 decision to Medicine Hat on Friday before losing 3-2 to the Regina Pats the following night - a game that Brandon outshot Regina 38-22 including 15-6 in the final period of play.
