For the second time in as many days, Washington Captials’ first round draft choice Eric Fehr been awarded a prestigious honour.

One day after capturing the Molson Cup second segment for the 2004-2005 Western Hockey League season, 19-year old right-winger Eric Fehr has been chosen January’s recipient of the Jack Fraser Player of the Month Award.

A former first round bantam draft choice of the Wheat Kings in 2000, the Winkler Manitoba product led Brandon in scoring this past month with seven goals and 15 points. During the month that ended Sunday afternoon with a come from behind 3-2 overtime victory over the Calgary Hitmen, Fehr had three powerplay, one shorthanded and three game winning goals.

Entering Wednesday night’s game against the Hitmen at Winnipeg’s MTS Centre, Fehr shares the WHL scoring lead with Gilbert Brule of the Vancouver Giants with 66 points including a league leading 41 goals. Fehr is well on his way to becoming the first Wheat King since Kelly Glowa in the early eighties to score 50 goals in back to back WHL seasons. Glowa scored 59 goals in ’81-82 before scoring 71 the following season. His four overtime game winning goals this season has also tied a WHL record, set by former Regina Pat Frank Kovacs during the ’90-91 campaign.

In 256 career WHL games, the 2-time all star has scored 207 points including 128 goals, leaving him thirteen shy of former Vancouver Canuck Rick Blight and tenth place on the club’s all time list for goals.

In recognition of the honour, Eric will receive a shirt, tie and suit from Jack Fraser in the Shoppers Mall, the official menswear clothier of the Wheat Kings at next Tuesday night’s game against the visiting Lethbridge Hurricanes at the Keystone Centre.
