Two nice articles about Brent Sutter from Vancouver papers (courtesy of N. W. Bruin).

Vancouver Province: Hockey second to Sutter (with quotes from former Rebels Holzapfel, Thoma, Paul, Endicott, Jim Vandermeer and Phaneuf)

"When I was in the hospital, laying in the bed like that, we talked about how hockey plays a back stage to life itself, that hockey is just extra to what life has to offer," Holzapfel said from Regina, where he plays for the University of Regina Cougars. "The first priority is life, hockey is second."

Vancouver Sun: The ties that bind: Hockey's royal family will be watching with pride

When Louis Sutter died, the boys said it was time for their mother, Grace, to move off the farm. She wouldn't do it.

"We've all told her, 'Mom, live in town, or move to Red Deer, even if you want to live in an apartment,'" said Darryl. "We think maybe after a tough winter she will, but she's still out there by herself. It's home, you know?

"All she does is watch hockey games. And my son Brett's playing for Brent in Red Deer now, and so is his son Brandon, so ...."

So Grace Sutter's radio can pick up the signal from the Red Deer station on the farm in Viking. She's quite happy to listen to another generation of Sutters, plugging away at the game.
