Brandon, Manitoba -- The Brandon Wheat Kings opened up the second half of their 2005-06 Western Hockey League regular season schedule in fine fashion Tuesday night, blasting the visiting Regina Pats 6-2 before 2,800 fans at the Keystone Centre.

Brandon exploded for four unanswered second period goals to break open a tight game, as the Wheat Kings ran their winning streak to two games.

Veterans Mark Derlago and Codey Burki led the winners offensively. While Derlago scored twice, Burki had a goal and three points to move past Derek LeBlanc and into the team scoring lead.

Ryan Reaves, Corey Courchene and 17-year old prospect Brandon Lockerby, playing in his first ever WHL game, also scored for the Wheat Kings, who received a 31-save performance from Florida Panthers' second round draft choice Tyler Plante.

A seventh round draft choice of the Wheat Kings in the 2003 WHL bantam draft, Lockerby was recalled from the AAA midget Wheat Kings earlier in the day. In 23 games with the midgets this season, the Douglas product has 19 goals and 35 points.

Tuesday's win, coupled with Prince Albert's Overtime Shootout loss to Saskatoon, moves Brandon into sole posession of fourth place in the WHL's Eastern Division. The 11-19-4-1 Wheat Kings are currently one point up on fifth place Prince Albert with two games in hand. The Wheat Kings will open up a 2-game Saskatchewan road trip Friday night in Prince Albert.
