GREEN NAMED GREYHOUND WHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK


The Greyhound WHL Player of the Week is defenceman Mike Green of the Saskatoon Blades. Green earned Player of the Week honors by recording thee goals and eight points in five games including a power-play goal during the week of January 3rd to January 9th. Green currently leads the WHL in scoring among defencemen with 10 goals and 40 points.


On Tuesday, January 4th, Green recorded two assists in an 8-3 victory against the visiting Swift Current Broncos. On Wednesday, January 5th, Green recorded an assist in a 5-3 loss to the Wheat Kings in Brandon.


On Friday, January 7th, Green scored a goal and added two assists in a 5-2 victory against the visiting Portland Winter Hawks. On Saturday, January 8th, Green scored a goal in a 3-2 loss to the Pats in Regina. On Sunday, January 9th, Green recorded a power-play goal a 6-2 victory against the visiting Prince Albert Raiders.


Green, a 19-year-old from Calgary, Alberta, was drafted in the 1st round, 29th overall by the Washington Capitals in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
