Bronco Week In Review
Record: 10-19-1-8
..
The Broncos returned from a 12 game break between games on Wednesday night when they hosted the Regina Pats for their 1st game since the Christmas Break. The game was the first of a 4 game home stand that the Broncos are currently on. On Friday night the Vancouver Giants walked into the Civic Centre for the first and only time this season. This week the Broncos host the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Wednesday and the Calgary Hitmen on Friday.
Friday night marked the Broncos return to hockey after the Christmas Break. Ned Lukacevic would not waste any time getting the Broncos an early lead as he would be patient and eventually out-last Pats rookie goaltender Linden Rowat before snapping his 14th of the season past Rowat. Regina, however, would tie the game up at 1 when Matt Robinson would reply 5 minutes later at the 6:04 mark of the 1st frame, his 13th of the year. The game would remain tied 1-1 until the 11:03 mark of the 2nd period when Daniel Rakos would give the Broncos another 1 goal lead with his 4th goal of the season. The Pats would again respond shortly, this time just 2 minutes later as Michael Senseman would put his 3rd of the season past Broncos goaltender Kyle Moir to knot the game at 2. Late in the 3rd period with the game still tied, Jeremy Schenderling on a 3-2 odd man rush with Luke Hunter and Kyle Bortis would score his team leading 16th goal of the season past Rowat, giving the Broncos a 3-2 lead that would not be solved and would be the final score in the game. The final shots from Wednesday night were 33-25 in favour of Regina in front of 2,061 fans. The Broncos power play went 0 for 5 on the evening while their penalty kill was a perfect 5 for 5.

On Friday night the Broncos the Broncos played their 2nd game of the 4 game home stand as they hosted the WHL leading Vancouver Giants. The Giants would apply some early pressure and would out chance the Broncos early in the game. Eventually it would be Captain Mark Fistric that would solve Kyle Moir at the 9:27 mark of the first period. The Giants would continue the pressure and 5 minutes later Jonathon Blum would add another to put Vancouver up 2-0. Before the period was over the Giants would strike again as Michal Repik would score his 18th of the season (SH) past Moir to give Vancouver a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes of play. The shots after 20 minutes were 17-4 in favor of Vancouver. The Broncos, however, would regain some lost momentum early in the 2nd period and a power play led to their fist goal of the game as Daniel Rakos scored his 5th of the season past Dustin Slade to cut the lead to two goals. Just two minutes later at the 8:31 mark of the 2nd period the line of Daniel Rakos, Marc Desloges, and Jeremy Schenderling would strike again as Desloges would score his 6th of the season, again on the power play, past Slade to pull the Broncos to within one. At the 14:32 mark of the 2nd Jason Reese would regain the 2 goal lead for the Giants as he slid his 4th of the season past Kyle Moir. The score was 4-2 heading into the third period with the Giants leading on the shot clock as well, 38-15 after 2 periods. Just 2:26 into the final frame Daniel Rakos would once again strike on the power play, however, Vancouver would quickly respond with two quick goals at the 3:43 and 4:18 marks of the 3rd period from Mitch Bartley and Mark Fistric respectively. Kyle Lamb would score again for the Giants at the 13:22 mark (SH) to give Vancouver a 7-3 lead. Josh Aspenlind would score his 8th of the season at the 15:23 mark of the 3rd period, however, was followed 2 minutes by another Giants goal, again from Lamb, to make the final score from Friday night 8-4 in favor of Vancouver. The final shots were 49-21 for Vancouver in front of 2,028 fans. Broncos power plays were the story of the game as Swift Current scored on 3 of their 7 power plays and allowed 2 goals against while on the man advantaged. The Broncos killed all 5 Vancouver power plays.
