Ottawa, Ont. -- Three Manitobans including 18-year old center Codey Burki of the Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings were among the forty players named today to participate in this year's Home Hardware CHL-NHL Top Prospects Game, to be played on Wednesday, January 18th at the Corel Centre in Ottawa.

The game will showcase the Canadian Hockey League's top players that are eligible for selection in this summer's National Hockey League entry draft. The players were chosen by the NHL's 30 teams.

A former first round bantam draft choice of the Wheat Kings, Burki is currently in his third WHL season and entering Wednesday's game against the visiting Red Deer Rebels, the 6'1" 195 lb. Winnipeg product leads Brandon in scoring with thirteen goals and 27 points in 40 games.

In 160 career games with the Wheat Kings, the former Winnipeg bantam Monarch scoring star has 23 goals and 60 points.

"On behalf of the CHL, it is my pleasure to congratulate these 40 young student athletes for their selection by the NHL to participate in this prestigious event," said David Branch, President of the CHL. "For many of these players, this is the highlight of their hockey careers so far and we look forward to watching them perform and carrying the rich tradition of excellence we have come to expect from the Home Hardware Top Prospects Game."

Burki was one of thirteen Western Hockey League players to be selected. Among those joining him are Saskatoon goalkeeper Kevin Armstrong (Winnipeg) and Calgary Hitmen star Ryan White (Brandon).

The other WHLers are Ty Wishart of Prince George, Kelowna's Tysen Dowzak, Riley Holzapfel of Moose Jaw, Spokane's Michael Grabner, Ben Maxwell and Lukas Bohunicky of the Kootenay Ice as well as Brady Calla, Peter Mueller and Leland Irving of the Everett Silvertips.

More than 380 players have suited up for this game and gone on to be chosen in the NHL entry draft. The game has featured five players - Chris Phillips, Joe Thornton, Vincent Lecavalier, Rick Nash and Marc-Andre Fleury - that were the first overall picks.

The CHL also announced today that Ottawa 67's coaches Brian Kilrea and Bert O'Brien will be behind the bench with Don Cherry while Peterborough Petes' coach Dick Todd will join Bobby Orr behind the other bench.

In the first period of the prospects game,Burki undressed a defenceman seriously and made a nice feed to Michael Grabner who scores. So after 1 period Burki has 1 assist.Grabner,Burki and Holzaphel are on a line together.

After the second period Burki has a goal to add to his assist, from a nice feed from Holzaphel and Burki just fired it into the yawning cage.6-2 for team Orr after 2.
