Saskatoon, SK – With the Western Hockey League trade deadline set for Tuesday January 10th at 4:00pm local time, General Manager & Head Coach Lorne Molleken, has announced the details of the clubs roster moves:
The Saskatoon Blades have acquired 19 year olds Joe Logan (D), Jim Watt (G), David Schulz (D) and 20 year old Chad Klassen (C) from the Spokane Chiefs in exchange for 17 year old rookie netminder Kevin Armstrong, 19 year old defenceman Evan Haw, along with the teams 3rd round Western Hockey League Bantam selection in 2006 and their 5th round Western Hockey League Bantam selection in 2007.
In Joe Logan coming to the Blades is a 19 year old defenceman from Gull Lake, Saskatchewan who is playing in his 4th Western Hockey League season. Logan began his Western Hockey League career in Vancouver with the Giants. Logan has played in 15 career Western Hockey League play-off games. In David Schulz the Blades are getting a 6’4” 19 year old defenceman who’s playing in his 4th Western Hockey League season. David was drafted by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2004 National Hockey League Entry Draft in the 8th round 254thoverall. Schulz played his first three complete seasons in Swift Current with the Broncos. Klassen was the Chiefs leading scorer coming into today’s trade deadline day. The speedy forward is playing in his 5th Western Hockey League season, all with the Chiefs until today joining the Blades. In 282 regular season games Chad has scored 96 goals, added 156 assists for 252 points. Chad has played in 15 Western Hockey League play-off games. In Jim Watt, the Blades acquired a 19 year old veteran netminder who will compliment Anton Khudobin in the Blades net. Jim has played in 4 Western Hockey League seasons, all with the Chiefs until today. Watt has collected 50 Western Hockey League wins and 10 shut-outs.
With all of today’s roster moves the Saskatoon Blades have 22 players on their roster, which includes 2 netminders, 7 defencemen and 13 forwards. All players acquired are expected in the Blades line-up on Wednesday night when the Blades travel to Swift Current. Saskatoon fans will have their first opportunity to see the new look Blades on Saturday January 14th when the Red Deer Rebels visit Credit Union Centre.
