Bronco Week In Review

The Broncos found themselves playing 3 games for the 2nd week in a row. This week they played host to the Saskatoon Blades on Wednesday night before playing a home and home series with the Lethbridge Hurricanes, who the Broncos are trailing for 3rd place in the East Division.
The Broncos played their first game of the week on Wednesday night when the Saskatoon Blades traveled into town…The game marked the debut of newly acquired players Brandon Tidball and Dane Crowley…It would be the Broncos who would jump out to the lead when Jeremy Schenderling score his 8th power play goal of the season at the 11:21 mark of the first frame past Blades goaltender Anton Khudobin to give the Broncos a 1-0 lead…The Blades, however, would respond as captain Wacey Rabbit would notch his 16th of the season past Broncos backup goaltender Travis Yonkman, who received his first start at home this season…The game would head into the 2nd period tied at 1 until Joe Barnes would once again solve Yonkman with his 20th of the season just 4:44 into the middle period…With the Blades up 2-1, Aaron Bader would add some insurance as he scored his 17th of the season at the 6:43 mark of the 2nd to put the Broncos 2 goals back…Daniel Rakos would dig into the Blades lead before the end of the period, however, as he would score his 7th of the season (PP) past Khudobin at the 12:11 mark…Dane Crowley would receive his first point as a Bronco, an assist, on Rakos' goal…Crowley would then throw an enormous hit on Wacey Rabbit late in the 2nd period to energize his new team heading into the final intermission break…The Broncos came out with strong emotion in the 3rd period and would eventually be rewarded for their efforts as Josh Aspenlind would score his 9th of the season past Khudobin midway through the final frame, tying the game up at 3 a side and sending it into overtime…In the end it would be Devin Setoguchi that would use a Bronco defenseman as a screen to beat Yonkman low and away, sealing the 4-3 victory for the Blades. Saskatoon out-shot the Broncos 29-28 in the game. Special teams played a large role in the game for the Broncos as the team was 2 for 4 on the power play while they went a perfect 5 for 5 on the penalty kill.

In a hard fought second period it would be Boychuk that would once again give his team a lead with his 14th of the season past Moir at the 9:47 mark of the 2nd period. The line combination of Ned Lukacevic, Kyle Bortis, and Levi Nelson would rally for the Broncos as Levi Nelson would score his 11th of the season at the 16:30 mark of the 2nd period and was immediately followed by Kyle Bortis putting his 5th of the season past McHale just 28 seconds later to give the Broncos a 3-2 lead. Kris Hogg would tie the game at 3 with just 21 seconds left in the 2nd period on his 12th goal of the season. The Broncos took a total of 6 minor penalties in the 2nd frame. Recently acquired Roman Wick would score Lethbridge's 4th goal of the game, which would also be the game winning goal, past Moir midway through the 3rd period. The Canes out shot the Broncos 29-23 in the contest in front of 1,916 fans. Special teams were the story of the game as Lethbridge had a total of 11 power plays versus the Broncos 7.
