Brandon, Manitoba -- You could say that veteran Brandon Wheat Kings' center Codey Burki enjoyed a terrific month of January.

Not only has he taken over the club scoring lead with seventeen goals and 35 points in 47 games, he was named the Game MVP at the 2006 Canadian Hockey League - NHL Top Prospects Game in Ottawa.

Now the former first round draft choice of the Wheat Kings has captured the second segment in Brandon's Molson Cup 3 Star Program.

An 18-year old native of Winnipeg, Burki collected 35 Molson Cup points during the club's second segment, which concluded Wednesday night in Prince George. Overall, Burki shares the club lead with Florida Panthers's second round draft choice Tyler Plante.

A 3-year Western Hockey League veteran, Burki is currently ranked 26th among North American skaters, by Central Scouting, for this year's NHL entry draft to be held in June.

The Molson Cup evolved from one of hockey's oldest traditions - the selection of the stars of the game. The Molson Cup is presented annually to the major junior hockey player on each team that receives the most player of the game points in all home and away regular season games.

A special presentation to Codey will be made by Molson Canada representative Val Robertson during Wednesday night's game at the Keystone Centre against the visiting Kamloops Blazers.

On the ice, Burki and the Wheat Kings will close out a 4-game western road trip Saturday night in Red Deer against the Rebels. After winning the first two games of this trip, Brandon dropped a disappointing 5-4 Overtime Shootout decision to the first place Calgary Hitmen Friday night. Despite the loss, the Wheat Kings have now collected at least a point in six straight games and have moved four points up on Prince Albert for the fourth and final playoff spot in the WHL's Eastern Division.

Wednesday's game against Kamloops will be the first of a 5-game home stand that includes Friday night's "Turn Back the Clock Night" against Swift Current and a Feb.8th game at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg vs. Lethbridge.
