Brandon, Manitoba – One of seven current Wheat Kings chosen by Brandon in what has turned out to be a very productive 2002 Western Hockey League bantam draft, has been chosen January’s winner of the Brandon Wheat Kings’ Tip Top Tailors Player of the Month.

Boyle joins Codey Burki (December), Mark Derlago (November) and Cole Hunter (September/October) as this year’s recipients.

A ninth round pick (169th overall), the 18-year old Lethbridge native enjoyed a solid month, helping Brandon post a 7-4-2-1 to vault past Prince Albert and back into fourth place in the WHL’s Eastern Division. In those fourteen games, Boyle scored one powerplay goal, set up four others and posted a team leading +6 ranking.

Boyle, who led all WHL rookies in plus/minus during the 2005 playoffs, is one of only two Wheat Kings to dress for all fifty games this season and entering Wednesday night’s game against the visiting Kamloops Blazers, he has four goals, 17 points and 38 minutes in penalties.

In winning the monthly award, the 6’2” 190 lb blueliner edged out Florida Panthers’ second round draft choice Tyler Plante. The 2005 WHL Rookie of the Year compiled a 2.20 goals against average and a stellar .922 save percentage in January.

In recognition of the honour, Daryl will receive a shirt, tie and suit from Tip Top Tailors in the Shoppers Mall, the official menswear clothier of the Wheat Kings during Friday night’s game against the visiting Swift Current Broncos.
