Brandon, Manitoba -- The Brandon Wheat Kings have announced that veteran center Tyler Strautman has been designated for surgery and will be lost to the Western Hockey League club for the balance of the 2005-06 season.

An 18-year old native of Leduc, Alberta, Strautman hasn't played since December 2nd because of a separated shoulder. The 6'1" 200 lb Strautman returned home this past weekend to await surgery.

After scoring two goals and 10 points in 43 games with the Wheat Kings last season, the former Drayton Valley Thunder dressed for eighteen games for Brandon this season, scoring one goal, three points while accumulating thirteen minutes in penalties.

A former tenth round selection (188th overall) of the Wheat Kings in the 2002 WHL bantam draft, Strautman should be ready for the start of training camp next fall.

Entering Tuesday's game in Saskatoon against the Blades, the Wheat Kings have lost 162 "man games" to injury this season. Rookie defenceman Keith Aulie, who has missed the past week (neck/shoulder) is expected to return to the Brandon lineup this week.

The loss of Strautman leaves the Wheat Kings with twenty-three players on their active roster - two goalkeepers, eight defencemen and 13 forwards.

On the ice, this is a busy week for the fourth place Wheat Kings, who will play four games in five nights this week. In addition to Tuesday's game, Brandon will host the Prince George Cougars on Wednesday before facing off against the Prince Albert Raiders in a critical home and home series this coming weekend, beginning Friday night at the Keystone Centre.

Brandon is currently four points up on the Raiders with seventeen regular season games to play. Four of those 17 will be against the Raiders - with three of them scheduled for the Keystone Centre.

not really that much of a loss, strautman didn't really bring much to the table. This may actually benifet us as maybe some of the younger guys can get more playing time (most notably hallick) It always sucks to see a guy go down, but in this case it doesn't really hurt us.
