Brandon, Manitoba -- It took a sudden death overtime Shootout but for the fourth straight year, the White Team defeated the Blacks 9-8 to capture the 2006 Investors Group Wheat Kings' Skills Day, held Sunday afternoon at the Keystone Centre.

With the score tied at eight, the event, which is held annually to raise money for Wheat Kings' Goals for Kids, was settled by a Shootout and of the ten shooters that participated, only defenceman Daryl Boyle was able to score - giving Team White the win.

An 18-year old native of Lethbridge, Boyle also captured the Breakaway event earlier in the day, edging out left-winger Mark Derlago of Team Black.

As for the individual events, 20-year old defenceman Riley Day won the Hardest Shot competition with a blast that registered 142 km/hr. Veteran Codey Burki won the Accuracy event, scoring on four of six shots while New York Islanders second round draft choice Dustin Kohn was the fastest skater with a time of 14.36.

Members of the Wheat Kings were split into two teams and were coached by Frank "Shotgun" McGwire and Breanne Cancade of 101.1 FM The Farm and the Breakfast club from 94.7 Star FM - Tyler Glen and Heather Prosak.

The event, which attracted approximately 1,300 fans also featured two Honorary Captains - Chelsey Kostesky of the Hamiota Huskies (Team White) and Bradley Tomiski (Team Black).

During the first three Skills Day, Team white won by scores of 4-2 in 2003, 8-1 in 2004 and 9-3 last winter.

The Wheat Kings have been involved with the Goals for Kids campaign since 1992 and have raised close to $175,000 since that time.
