Silvertips Break Thunderbirds 6-2
Everett One Game Closer to US Division Title
Everett Silvertips Press Release

Zach Hamill scored his first career hat trick tonight
Everett, WA - The Everett Silvertips gain two valuable points on the second place Seattle Thunderbirds after a huge 6-2 win in the Everett Events Center. This was meeting number nine of eleven and the Silvertips are trailing in the series 4-4-0-1. Everett now has 79 points and a 37-22-2-3 record and is now 14 points ahead of their competition. Seattle, holding down the second place spot, has 65 points and a 30-28-1-4 history.

The first period began fast and furious as the Thunderbirds got up to a quick 2-0 lead. At 1:55 of the opening period Kyle Pess angled in his shot from the bottom right circle to put Seattle up 1-0. Then 33 seconds later Tyler Johnson scored on a power play to create a two goal deficit for Everett. The Silvertips then changed the momentum of the game and proceeded to go on a 6-0 run to win tonight's game by a final score of 6-2.

Ondrej Fiala slapped the first in from the doorstep at 6:17 of the first period, on a power play. Then, five minutes later, Torrie Wheat evened up the game at two a piece on another Everett extra man advantage. At 16:46 Zach Hamill earned his first of three consecutive tallies after he caught a pass through the crease and banged the puck home. At 10:41 of the second period, Hamill rifled one from the left face off dot and sent it through a defender and Kevin Opsahl, Seattle's netminder. Finally early in the third Hamill tipped in a John Lammers shot and earned a hat trick. Finishing up the scoring was John Lammers at 12:28, after he caught a feed and got a step on both defenders which opened up the lane to Opsahl.

This was the club's eighth hat trick of the season, their third natural hat trick. Previous players to earn hat tricks this season are Peter Mueller with three, John Lammers with two and Torrie Wheat and Ondrej Fiala with one a piece. John Lammers led the game with four assists, followed by Brady Calla with three, Peter Mueller with two and Eric Doyle, Mark Kress and Torrie Wheat all with one a piece.

Leland Irving turned away 15 of 17 shots and betters his goaltending history to 34-19-1-3. Kevin Opsahl, making 28 saves on 34 shots, drops his record to 19-19-0-4. Both teams were one hundred percent on the power play tonight with Everett converting on both opportunities and Seattle on their only one. Everett out shot Seattle 26-17.

The top two division rivals battle one another again tomorrow night, Saturday March 4th, at the Key Arena. The puck drops at 7:05pm.

1. Seattle Scores two goals on first 4 shots and leads 2-0 with 16 to go in the 1st

2. Everett scors the next six unanswered goals including a
Natural Hat Trick by Hamill

3. Other than the fight near the end, there were a grand total of three penalties called in the game. All in the first 9:33. of the game. No penalties were called for the last 2 1/2 periods.

4. Coincidentally, also in the 1st, Matsuoka went down hard on a hit by a T-bird and stayed down on the Ice for a good 4 minutes. He didn't call a penalty the rest of the game (except the fight)

4. The teams were 3 for 3 on the PP combined (Tips 2/2, Birds 1/1)

5. The Tips have 34 fighting majors the entire year, nine of them have been in the last 4 games. A Pace that would give them a total of 162 in an entire 72 game season.

I think Matsouka had no idea where he was but the no calls didn't effect the game.
Expect a closer game tonight with Bridges in net
Whats with Mueller and his fake job? Down for 5 min back out the next shift. That won't fly in the bigs.

What are you talking about? Mueller never went down in last night's game! The only guy who went down was Smyke...number 28. Mueller is # 88. You must've seen it wrong. And Smyke did NOT come back.

.....that's what started teh "ref U suck" chant....although I thought it was an "Accidental" trip and probably wouldn't have called a penalty either. Opsahl definately tripped him. Matsuoka never calls penalties in the third, but yesterday he didn't call any ofr 2 1/2 periods.
