Colleen MacBean Receives WHL Distinguished Service Award

CALGARY, AB – Ron Robison, Commissioner of the Western Hockey League announced today that long-time Swift Current Broncos’ Education Advisor and Family Billet Colleen MacBean is this year’s recipient of the WHL's new Distinguished Service Award.
The WHL Distinguished Service Award, which the WHL introduced during the 2004-05 season, is presented annually to an individual associated with the WHL who has made an extraordinary contribution over an extended period of time at the WHL Club or League level.
Colleen MacBean first became involved with the Broncos as the team’s Education Advisor and a Family Billet in 1986 when the team relocated back to Swift Current from Lethbridge after a 12 year absence from the city.
Colleen has had a huge impact on the “family” of young men that have passed through her home, worked with as a Counsellor, and who have experienced her caring understanding, given so unselfishly to the Broncos organization through the years.
After teaching English and History at Swift Current Comprehensive High School, Colleen moved on and served as a Counsellor for 23 years followed by five years as Director of Student Services. She retired from SC Comprehensive High School in 1998.
“Colleen has provided ideas, advice, and leadership in the field of education as it relates to school and Major Junior Hockey. She has contributed significantly to the fundamental principles and philosophy of the WHL Education Program, which has become the premier system in North America,” stated Jim Donlevy, WHL Director, Education Services.
The countless hours she has spent over the years doing such important work makes Colleen MacBean an outstanding recipient of the WHL's Distinguished Service Award.
WHL Commissioner Ron Robison will be in Swift Current on Wednesday, March 8th to present Colleen with the award in a ceremony prior to the Broncos-Regina Pats game.
