- Practice 1:15 p.m. at Max Bell Centre.

Tuesday, March 7th
- ROAD GAME at Red Deer Rebels. Broadcast on Fan960.com starts at 6:45 p.m. Hitmen are 6 and 2 against the Rebels this season.

Wednesday, March 8th
- HOME GAME vs. Prince Albert Raiders 7 p.m. Pengrowth Saddledome. Radio Broadcast on Fan 960 starts at 6:00 p.m. Hitmen lead the season series 3 games to 1.

Thursday, March 9th
- Practice 12:45 p.m. Pengrowth Saddledome.

Friday, March 10th
- HOME GAME vs. Regina Pats 7 p.m. Pengrowth Saddledome. It’s Cops for Cancer Head Shave. Several Hitmen players including captain Brett Carson will have their head shaved, on-ice at the end of the game. Proceeds go to the Canadian Cancer Society. Radio Broadcast on Fan 960 starts at 6:00 p.m. Regina has won 2 of the 3 meetings.

Saturday, March 11th

Sunday, March 12th
- HOME GAME vs. Medicine Hat Tigers 2 p.m. Pengrowth Saddledome. Radio Broadcast on Fan 960 starts at 1:00 p.m. Medicine Hat leads the season series 3 games to 2 with four of the five meetings decided by a single goal.

GAME NOTES: Tuesday, March 7th at Red Deer Rebels

TEAM NEWS;

HITMEN HEADLINES: Calgary has points in four straight (2 wins and 2 shoot-out losses) as they visit Red Deer tonight. The Hitmen are coming off Sunday afternoon’s 6-5 shoot-out loss to Medicine Hat. Calgary scored twice in the final two minutes to force overtime. Mike Reich led the way with a pair while Brett Carson, Craig Lineker and Brodie Dupont added singles. The shoot-out went seven shooters deep before Tiger Roman Psurny potted the winner. Medicine Hat outshot Calgary 27-20 in front of 13,375 in Pengrowth Saddledome. The Hitmen are 45-17-2-2, good for 94 points. That’s three points back of Medicine Hat for first in the Central and number one overall.

VS RED DEER: Tonight is the 9th of 10 meetings with the Rebels. Calgary leads the season series 6 games to 2. September 23rd in Red Deer; Hitmen 4 Rebels 2. Keegan Dansereau 1G2A. SHUTOUT HOCKEY: The Hitmen have been involved in 19 shutouts this season, blanking the opposition 11 times, while being held off the score sheet 8 times themselves.

40 WIN SEASON: Calgary’s 45 wins is the third most in franchise history. The Hitmen won 51 in ‘98/’99, but the club record is 58 set in ‘99/2000.

SPECIAL TEAMS: The Hitmen powerplay went 1-5 Sunday afternoon against Medicine Hat and has now scored in two straight games. Overall it’s 12th in the WHL 58-365 15.9%. The penalty kill was 6 for 9 breaking a streak of 22 straight kills. Overall it’s given up 52 goals on 383 chances, number 4 in the WHL at 86.4%.

CHL TOP 10: Calgary is ranked 5th in the Canadian Hockey League this week, that’s unchanged from a week ago. It’s the 19th time in 20 weeks they’ve been recognized. Other WHL teams to crack the rankings include Medicine Hat at number 2, Vancouver 8 and Moose Jaw 9. The Quebec Remparts are number one.

STINGY D: The Hitmen have surrendered the second fewest goals of any teams in the WHL (141). They are on pace for 154 against. That would shatter the franchise record of 182 set in 1999/2000.

NAIL BITTERS: The Hitmen are 21-7-2-2 in one goal games this season…..32 of their 66 games or 49 percent have been decided by one goal.

PLAYER NEWS;

POINT STREAKS: Brodie Dupont has 35 points (21G+14A=35) in his last 40 games. Ryan White has 14 points in his last 14 games (7G+7A=14). Jeff Schultz has points in 2 straight (0G+3A=3)

CAREER WATCH: Kris Deines needs 12 penalty minutes for 500.

WHL Top 10: Justin Pogge leads the league with a 1.75 Goals Against Average. He also has the most shutouts with 11. Pogge is second in wins with 36 and third in save percentage at .924%. Freddie Pettersson is 10th in Rookie scoring with 38 points.

DID YOU KNOW? Calgary’s leading scorer Ryan White is actually tied for 41st overall in the WHL scoring race with 48 points.

POGGE SETS FOUR FRANCHISE RECORDS: Justin Pogge has snapped 2 shutout records this season. He has 13 career shutouts with the Hitmen, breaking the old record of 5 set by Brent Krahn from ‘98-’02. His 11 shutouts this season snaps the single season mark of 4 previously shared by Scott Bowles ’04-’05, Brent Krahn ’99-’00, and Alexandre Fomitchev ’98-’99. But that’s not all, in Mid-February Pogge had a shutout streak of 228 minutes and 47 seconds, breaking the old mark of 168:12 set by Barry Brust in 2004. During that span, Pogge also became the first goalie in franchise history to record three consecutive shutouts.

POGGE CHASING WHL RECORD: Justin Pogge has 20 career shutouts in the WHL. That’s second all-time, trailing only Bryan Bridges in Seattle who currently has 21.

NHL DRAFT RANKINGS: In Central Scouting’s Mid-Season rankings Peter Mueller of Everett is the WHL’s number 1 prospect, 5th among North American skaters. Hitmen forward Ryan White is number 22 and played in the 2006 Home Hardware CHL – NHL Top Prospects in Ottawa. He scored once helping Team Orr thump Team Cherry 7-2. Keegan Dansereau is also turning heads, ranked 98th among North American skaters. U-S-A defenceman Erik Johnson is the number one prospect, while right winger Michael Frolik of the Czech Republic is the top ranked European.

DRAFTED PLAYERS: The Hitmen have 6 NHL picks ...Jeff Schultz-(1st round Washington 2004), Brodie Dupont-(3rd round NY Rangers 2005), Justin Pogge-(3rd round Toronto 2003), Brett Carson-(4th round Carolina 2004), Freddie Pettersson-(5th round Edmonton 2005) Lukas Vantuch-(6th round Boston 2005).

Well, the Hitmen are doing a heck of a job pissing away any hope at the division, leaving three easy points on the table against Red Deer and PA.

Though ultimately, the only thing it would mean is that we don't get to raise two extra banners at next year's home opener.

For awhile, it looked like the Hitmen wanted to finish second in the division, Second in the Conference, and SECOND overall.

Playing the first round versus Lethbridge rather than traveling to Swift Current.

Well, the Hitmen have only a very few games left to prove me wrong.
