AEROS ACQUIRE 2003 1ST-ROUND PICK

HOUSTON, Texas – The Minnesota Wild has obtained defensemen Martin Skoula and Shawn Belle from the Dallas Stars for defenseman Willie Mitchell, the teams announced Thursday. Belle, a 21-year-old rookie who was a first-round pick of the St. Louis Blues in 2003, has been assigned to the Aeros.

Belle, 21 (1/3/85) is reunited with his former junior hockey defenseman mate Clayton Stoner. Belle, a 6-foot-1, 220-pound native of Edmonton, Alta., had three points (1-2=3) and 63 points in 45 games with the American Hockey League’s Iowa Stars this season. He played four-plus seasons with WHL Tri City, with his best season coming in 2004-05, when he posted 45 points (13-32=45) in 62 games. St. Louis selected Belle with the 30th overall pick in 2003. He was a member of Canada's Gold-Medal winning team at the 2005 World Junior Championships.

Taticek, 21 (9/22/83), posted career bests in points (30), goals (nine) and assists (21) in 44 games with Houston. He also made his NHL debut this season, playing in three games with the Panthers without registering a point. Taticek was selected ninth overall by Florida in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.

Not a good way to start his professional career... I thought that he did a very decent job in Tri-City, and he always seemed to frustrate Everett. Belle is certainly missed by the Americans (especially Price) this season.

Maybe a change of scenery, and re-uniting with Stoner, is just what Belle needs to get back on track. :thumb:
