Brandon, Manitoba – The 2005-06 hockey season will continue for at least one member of the Western Hockey League’ Brandon Wheat Kings.

The National Hockey League’s New York Islanders have confirmed that 18-year old defenceman Dustin Kohn has joined their American Hockey League affiliate, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers for the balance of the season.

A second round draft choice of the Islanders in last summer’s NHL Entry Draft in Ottawa, the 6’1’ 195 lb Edmonton product was acquired by the Wheat Kings at January’s WHL trade deadline from Calgary in exchange for 19-year old left-winger Derek LeBlanc.

In 69 games this past season, Kohn scored four goals, 29 points and accumulated 50 minutes in penalties. As well, he led the club with an impressive plus 13 ranking during the regular season and in scoring, with four assists in six playoff games.

During his 3-year WHL career, he has 81 points including fifteen goals in 192 games.

Entering the final weekend of the 2005-06 AHL regular season, the Tigers are two points away from clinching a berth in the Calder Cup Playoffs. Bridgeport hits the road this week for games against Ryan Stone, Erik Christensen and the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins on Friday night, before closing out the year against the Wolf Pack in Hartford on Saturday.
