New York, NY - New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has agreed to terms on a professional contract with forward Dane Byers.

Byers, 20, skated in 71 games with the Prince Albert Raiders of the Western Hockey League (WHL) this season, registering 21 goals and 27 assists for 48 points, along with 157 penalty minutes. He tied for the team lead in goals (21), ranked second on the team in power play goals (nine) and penalty minutes (157) and was third in points (48). During the season, Byers recorded nine multiple-point games and posted seven point-scoring streaks of three games or more. In addition, he appeared in the ADT Canada Russia Challenge on December 1, notching one assist.

The native of Nipawin, Saskatchewan, has appeared in 236 career games with Prince Albert (WHL), recording 49 goals and 50 assists for 99 points, along with 518 penalty minutes. In post-season play, he has collected five goals and eight assists, along with 13 penalty minutes in 23 career games. Internationally, Byers represented Canada at the 2004 (U-18) World Junior Championships, where he registered one assist and eight penalty minutes. He was also chosen to participate in the 2004 Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game, which was held on January 21, 2004.

The 6-3, 195-pound forward was selected by the New York Rangers in the second round, 48th overall, of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
