WHL Director of Communications Resigns

The WHL announced today that WHL Director, Communications Leroy McKinnon has resigned his position effective May 15, 2006.

McKinnon spent 7 years with the WHL as Director, Communications and was instrumental in introducing new WHL internet and broadcasting initiatives. Under McKinnon’s direction the WHL launched a new internet based results / statistics system in 2002 followed by live streaming of all WHL games at the start of the 2005-06 season.

“Leroy McKinnon made an enormous contribution to the WHL over the past seven years” commented WHL Commissioner Ron Robison. “ We have made great strides in all aspects of our communications, particularly in the internet area, and Leroy has been instrumental in managing these new initiatives.”

Leroy McKinnon and his wife Twyla and daughter Audrey will be returning to Atlantic Canada to pursue new career opportunities in the Halifax area.

The Western Hockey League (WHL), one of the World’s finest development leagues with currently 21 member Clubs throughout Western Canada and the U.S. Pacific Northwest, is seeking a highly motivated and dynamic individual to serve in the Director, Communications position at their Calgary based WHL Office.

The WHL Director, Communications will be responsible to manage all aspects of the WHL Communications portfolio including media relations; WHL website and internet programming; all WHL broadcast agreements and new initiatives; WHL publications; WHL statistics and results system and certain hockey operations special projects.

Candidates for the position should have experience in the hockey industry or related field, as well as, possessing a strong inter-personnel skills and work ethic. A degree or diploma in a communications or related field would be an asset.
