I have no clue who we should draft, or what our pick number is, but I am assuming it should be a forward, we have good prospects in goal, and defence, that is all I am basing it on. but then again McCrimmon & McPherson might pull a shocker, so I really have no idea

Theres not really a surefire prospect thats rated high from Manitoba this year. Don't count out a defencemen as we wont see this guy until 2008 season.

btw Sanfred King is gonna tear it up next season. Im expecting some big things from this kid wouldn't be shocked if he scores 25 goals and adds 30 assists.

The Brandon Wheat Kings will pick ninth overall when the Western Hockey League holds its annual Bantam Draft on Thursday. The draft will be held in the Round-Up Center at Stampede Park, beginning at 10 a.m. Central Standard Time.

Eligible players for the Bantam Draft will be 1991 born players who reside in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Northwest Territories, Yukon, Alaska as well as many of the western U.S. states including Minnesota, Washington and Oregon.

The bantam draft allows for the orderly transfer of players to WHL Protected Lists from the bantam ranks.

Among the players expected to hear their name called fairly early in the proceedings are Prince George center Ryan Howse, center Codey Eakin of the Winnipeg Bantam AAA Monarchs and Landon Ferraro of the Burnaby Winter Club Bantam Bruins.

Ferraro is the son of former Wheat Kings' scoring great Ray Ferraro, who currently holds the WHL record for most goals in a single season - 108 - during the 1983-84 campaign.

Other Manitobans expected to be chosen include the likes of left-winger Jason Gardiner, center Scott Glennie and defenceman James Martin of Winnipeg as well as blueliners Brock Sutherland and Paul Bonar of the Brandon Bantam AAA Wheat Kings.

Brandon's first pick during the 2005 draft was forward Sanfred King, who skated this past season with the AAA Midget Wheat Kings - as a 15-year old. Two years ago, Brandon nabbed blueliner Keith Aulie eleventh overall after completing a pair of draft-day deals with Red Deer and Kamloops.

Of the 24 players that played the 2005-06 campaign in Brandon, thirteen were chosen by the Wheat Kings in the WHL bantam draft. Among them - Codey Burki (1st Round, 2002), Jeff Topilko (1st Round, 2001), Matt Hallick (2nd Round, 2004), Ryan Reaves (2nd Round, 2002), Tyler Plante (3rd Round, 2002) and captain Teegan Moore (5th Round, 2001).

Still others were not chosen by any team in the draft, including left-winger Mark Derlago. A former Manitoba AAA Midget League Scoring Champion, the Brandon born Derlago led the Wheat Kings in goals this past season.

By choosing ninth overall, Brandon has it's first top ten draft position in five years. Brandon has drafted second overall on three occasions - from 1991 through '93 - electing to go with Winnipeg center Colin Cloutier, defenceman Wade Redden and left-winger Darren Van Oene respectively.

It would be awesome to get Ferraro but I think he will go in the top 3 maybe a trade up?

I like Carter Ashton from the Contacts a big kid who played Midget this year

I got a feeling though if anyone of Eakin,Gardner or Glennie are around one of those guys will be our pick

Be nice to have Landon drafted by us,so he can be a wheat King just like his dad.Maybe we could trade up.Don't really need to draft a ton of defenceman.Too many in our system.Need forwards.

With Brandon's first selection 9th overall, they draft center Brayden Schenn from Saskatoon.

The Brandon Wheat Kings looked to Saskatoon Thursday morning, selecting highly touted center Brayden Schenn with their first choice (9th overall) in the 2006 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft.

A brother of Kelowna Rockets' defenceman Luke Schenn, the 6' 175 lb. forward scored 65 goals and 108 points in 43 games with the Saskatoon Bantam AA Generals this past season.

Luke Schenn was Kelowna's first round pick (20th overall) in the 2004 bantam draft in Calgary.

"This kid has real good hockey sense and vision," says one WHL scout. "He has real good touch around the net."
With their second round pick (30th overall), Brandon opted for 5'11" 155 lb center Scott Glennie of the Winnipeg AAA Bantam Monarchs. Glennie finished second in the Winnipeg Bantam AAA Hockey League scoring race with 25 goals and 63 points.
Schenn was one of five Saskatoon born players to be chosen in the opening round. Among the others - defenceman Jared Cowen - who was selected by the Spokane Chiefs first overall.

He also has a monster attitude. Rumor was that he was released from the Sherwood Park Bantam AAA team due to an altercation with the trainer, and then picked up by Strathcona. Didn't hear of any problems with their coaches though so maybe he can be managed, his stats sure look good.

Wouldn't believe that guy on the White. He's a wheatking hater.Brandon had already discussed them drafting Schenn with Schenn before they made the pick.If It wasn't okay to draft Schenn and he had homesick problems,he should have said something this morning, which he didn't hence Schenn being fine about going to Brandon.

Good Picks by the Wheaties! Schenn is a nice pick and should grow some more. A natural goal scorer wonder if he will move to the Wing?

Wow I cant believe Glennie Fell to us in the second round The guy should have been a top 10 pick IMO. I wonder if he is not thinking of the NCAA route?

Pick up another Goalie which isnt bad at all. I like the Monster Dman, pfft bad Attitude we love guys with Bad attitude in Brandon. I know some Scouting services had Brady ranked higher then he went

Jesse Hall is a small center 5'8 130 from Winnipeg who played Bantam AAA for the Hawks. He was second in team scoing 24-33-57 and is fast player with great skills. Hopefully he can grow a little bit. Think Jay Fehr or Nathan Green
