OILERS SIGN TYLER SPURGEON

Courtesy of www.edmontonoilers.com The Edmonton Oilers have signed centre Tyler Spurgeon to a three-year NHL entry level contract.

The 5’10”, 190-pound forward joins the Oilers’ organization following four seasons with the Kelowna Rockets of the Western Hockey League. The Oilers’ ninth choice in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, scored 7-17-24 in 39 games with Kelowna in 2005-06 and added three assists and 14 penalty minutes in 12 playoff games. The Rockets’ team captain was sidelined for over half the season due to a shoulder injury that required surgery.

Spurgeon scored 43-81-124 in 212 career WHL regular season games with the Rockets and registered 99 penalty minutes. The 20-year-old native of Edmonton scored 17-19-36 with 41 PIM in 72 career WHL playoff games.

Spurgeon was a member of Kelowna ’s 2004 Memorial Cup championship team and helped the Rockets win the 2005 WHL championship.

Quite a few ex-Rockets are forging good pro careers.

Jessie Schultz is having a great year with the Manitoba Moose leading them in scoring and going onto the 2nd round of the Calder Cup Playoffs.

Shea Weber is doing well with the Preds in the playoffs too.

Good to see the guys (even if they did score against the Giants :burningma )you watched in the dub have success.
