Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen are pleased to announce goalie Justin Pogge has captured two Western Hockey League awards, one for Player of the Year and another for Goaltender of the Year.

Pogge had a terrific season with the Hitmen posting a regular season record of 38-10-2-4. He led the WHL with a 1.72 goals-against average and tied for the best save percentage at .926 and most shutouts with 11.

The Toronto Maple Leafs prospect also snapped two franchise shutout records this season. His 13 career shutouts with the Hitmen broke the old mark of five set by Brent Krahn from 1998-2002. His 11 in a single season snapped the previous record of four shared by Scott Bowles ’04-’05, Brent Krahn ’99-’00, and Alexandre Fomitchev ’98-’99.

In addition Pogge had a Mid-February shutout streak of 228 minutes and 47 seconds, breaking the franchise mark of 168:12 set by Barry Brust in 2004. During that span, Pogge also became the first goalie in Hitmen history to record three consecutive shutouts.

“Justin worked extremely hard this season and there’s no questioning the impact he had on not only the Hitmen but the entire league,” said Hitmen GM and Head Coach Kelly Kisio. “He’s an outstanding goalie and has a very bright future ahead of him.”

He's a virtual lock to win the CHL's goalie of the year award as well. How he does in CHL MVP voting will be rather interesting though.
