KENNEWICK, WA - The Tri-City Americans today have drafted two players in the Western Hockey League’s Special Draft of U.S. talent. With its first pick (7th overall) the Americans selected 15-year-old defenseman Jason Nash of Oxnard, California. On the second round the club took 16-year-old left wing Jeff Bain of Rancho Palos Verdes, California.

The 5’10”, 160 pound Nash played last season for the L.A. Selects AAA Midget U-16 team and in 50 games had three goals, 20 points and 50 penalty minutes. “He is a smooth skating defenseman who likes to join the rush,” said Americans governor/general manager Bob Tory. “Jason has very good offensive instincts.” Nash will attend the Americans rookie camp in late August at Toyota Center.

The Americans made the league’s only choice on the second round and selected the 5’11”, 175 pound Bain. Last season for the L.A. Jr. Kings Midget AAA U-18 club, Bain played in 54 games and had 18 goals, 33 points and 142 penalty minutes. “Bain is a hard nosed forward with good speed and an offensive touch,” said Tory. Bain is expected to attend the Americans main camp in August at Toyota Center.
