Portage la Prairie, MB. -- Former Brandon Wheat Kings' left-winger John Dzikowski has died at the age of 40.

A Portage la Prairie native, John played with the Wheat Kings from 1983-86, before being traded to the Seattle Thunderbirds.

A former 6th round draft choice (121st overall in 1984) of the National Hockey League's Philadelphia Flyers, Dzikowski scored 85 goals and 151 points in 150 games. His best season as a Wheat King came in 1984-85 when he fired 38 goals and 73 points in 59 games while playing alongside the likes of Derek Laxdal, Byron Lomow and Dean Sexsmith.

In addition to his WHL playing days, Dzikowski spent time in the International, American and East Coast Hockey Leagues.

Cause of death was not released. Funeral arrangements are pending
