Lenoski was 5-13-18 last year

Chilliwack, B.C. -- The Western Hockey League's newest entry, the Chilliwack Bruins have announced a long list of players chosen this afternoon in the WHL's Expansion draft, designed to stockpile the franchise with players as they continue preparations for what will be their first season.

Among the players selected was 20-year old defenceman Stephane Lenoski. A 6'1" 201 lb Winnipeg product, the former Winnipeg AAA Midget Shark blueliner was one of

Like the other nineteen established WHL clubs, the Wheat Kings were only able to protect thirteen of their 17,18 and 19-year old players as well as three of six 20-year olds.

In seventy games with the Wheat Kings this past season, Lenoski scored five goals, 18 points and accumulated 64 minutes in penalties. During his three years in Brandon, he had six goals, 41 points and 132 penalty minutes.

Chosen Brandon's Most Community Minded Player in 2005-06, Lenoski is a former Scholastic Player of the Year and UCT Most Improved Player (2004-05).

Had Lenoski returned to Brandon this fall, he would have been competing with five others for the three overage spots available on the club roster. Those four include forwards Mark Derlago, Teegan Moore, Cole Hunter, Jeff Topilko as well as Corey Courchene, who split last season between right-wing and the blueline.

"Stephane was a valuable contributor to the hockey club over the last three seasons," says Brandon general manager and head coach Kelly McCrimmon. "It's unfortunate to lose a player of his calibre but in his case he was in a real logjam on the blueline and with our surplus of 20-year olds."

Lenoski becomes the latest member of the Wheat Kings to be lost in the WHL Expansion draft. Three years ago, Brandon lost Bryan Nathe to the Everett Silvertips, defenceman Mark Ardelan was chosen by the Vancouver Giants in 2001, the Edmonton Ice opted for David Darguzas in 1996, Calgary picked up a third round bantam pick from Brandon in lieu of a pick in '95, Red Deer chose Souris product Pete LeBoutillier in '92 while the Tacoma Rockets drafted right-winger Darren Ritchie in '91, although Brandon later reacquired the 60-goal scorer.

We wish you all the best in Chilliwack.I imagine you'll be wearing a letter of some sorts next season.
