I myself just noticed that many teams in the NHL have them, not sure about the WHL ,I know that the NFL,CFL has cheerleaders.

It may be appealing for guys ;) but do you think it will be a good thing for the sport of hockey?

Do cheerleaders/Ice Girls belong in hockey?

we have 'em in Vancouver.. they are in the stands during the game and on the ice when the teams first come out, as well as during all the between period on-ice promo stuff.

There can be as many as 6 and as few as three depending on the day - it seems.

I'm sure to be accused of being a feminist for saying this, but I'm not convinced that cheerleaders belong in hockey. That being said, I think the factor which should be used in saying yes or no to cheerleaders in general is.....can they be in the action without slowing up the game. I think cheerleaders in basketball and football are great. They are on the field of play and able to do their thing during any pauses in the action. With sports like hockey and baseball the concept simply does not translate as well, most likely because so much time is spent roaming the stadium to get in place for their next appearance, and then the fans have to look for them when they are "dancing". Just my 2 cents.

as much as I love women, and as much as I love women in sultry/slutty/skanky clothes running around, I just cant bring myself to accept cheerleaders in hockey. Its absolute nonscence IMO.

The game of hockey does not need to be sold with sex! A quality on ice product is what brings the fans through the doors. And if a team cant do that then they need a new GM and coach, not a bunch of girls annoying the fans. I know there is a lot of women and girls at the games and I dont thing they appreciate it, and they pay at the door like everyone else so we must be considerate of that.

When I am sitting at a game and there is a commercial brake, I like to see cheerleaders come down the walk ways and do there thing. I can't remember where, but I know I've been to a game with cheerleaders (maybe Halifax) and I thought it was great. I'm all for cheerleaders, as long as they don't do it during game play. Commercial breaks and Radio breaks now, I would definatly like to see cheerleaders, they would help get crowds going I think.

Crazy George has made the odd appearance in Vancouver,he's pretty good. The cheerleaders here are young girls(or I'm getting old).I almost feel embarrassed for them with some of the comments they endure.
The woman with the screeching voice(and no math skills LOL) that does alot of the promotions during timeouts etc. has got to go,though.

Agreed, how could you surive her? Two days was enough for me. I generally think its a bad idea. When I was in Vancouver it only stung more to have a hot girl trashing you and your team...sigh.

But the NHL seems to think is does. What really bothered me was right after the lockout the NHL got a whole new makeover and they did use sex to sell hockey. The commercial with the lady in lingerie dressing a hockey player for a game! and getting Crosby to pose half naked! just outrageous!

Thank god I'm not the only one who feels that way...she has to go, or they have to work on the pitch in the system..its BRUTAL.

As for the "cheerleaders"..I have to say they arent really cheerleaders, more like..."dancers" with pom poms..which being a dancer..I use that term for them with a little bit of hesitation. They're all BC Lions cheerleaders, they have ****ty "dances" and most of the time arent even doing the same thing. I could see it if they were just doing promotions..but the dancing is just stupid...it's not needed at hockey.

It is at times hard for me to be against it since I dance and would love the opportunity to dance in front of that many people..but I'd also be a bit embarassed to be doing so at a hockey game.

The girls who scoop the ice at Canucks games aren't so bad...except that they wear figure skates..that really burns my ass.

Wow, is she ever shrill. Right up there with nails on the chalk board. Some one needs to tell her that the microphone will do all of the work, there is no need for the shrieking.

The strippers, erhh, ice girls that shovel the goal and bench areas in the NHL games are alright though.

I didn't notice either.
But I talked to Kendall for like 20 minutes one night after one of the games, and she told me.
