It is quite simple actually. There is only a certain set of numbers that are possible to get when you do the trick. eg. 9, 36, etc. If you look at it, you will see that all the numbers in that set have the same sign. This means it will always guess the correct one.

Yup. When you pick an number and subtract from it the 2 numbers that make it up you will get the same number ie 22-(2+2) = 18, 23-(2+3)=18 etc and that works for every set of 10 numbers. The only possible choices are multiples of 9 if i remember correctly (9, 18,27,36 etc). The only reason is appears that the computer knows what you chose is that it randomly changes the symbols each time around so it seems as if the computer knows which symbol you picked, when in reality #9,18,27,36 etc all correspond to the same symbol.

Wow, I cant get nothing past you guys! Lifelong pretty much hit the nail on the head. Whenever you take a 2 digit number and add them together and subtract from the original, the resulting number will be a multiple of 9 (ie: 9, 18, 27,...., 63, 72...). If you look at the board the symbol for all of those numbers will be the same (it can't be wrong), but it changes each time you restart the game.

I thought I'd get to stump all of you for atleast one day.... Oh well

that's a good one - glad I got creeped out a bit before reading farther down - and then went back and checked to see that that's what it did.

I guess it doesn't works for folks that aren't that good at math though :D - subtract 16 from 88 and getting 71 doesn't quite work as well :p
