View Full Version : Bantam W'kings go in MJHL draft

Seven members of the Brandon AA Bantam Wheat Kings were selected during the annual Manitoba Junior Hockey League bantam draft held Sunday, June 4 in Dauphin.

The Swan Valley Stampeders picked up three Wheat City products, including the first local player to be selected, defenceman Brock Sutherland in the second round, 16th overall.

Sutherland was also a selection in the WHL bantam draft last month by the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

Another defenceman, Blair Osiowy, was the next Brandon player selected. The Dauphin Kings selected Osiowy in the second round, 22nd overall.
The Stampeders picked up defenceman Paul Bonar with their third round selection – 27th overall. Bonar is also property of the Moose Jaw Warriors
who selected him in the sixth round of the WHL draft.

Forward Derek Ginnell was the next local product selected. The OCN Blizzard picked Ginnell in the third round, 32nd overall. Ginnell was also picked up in the WHL draft by the Calgary Hitmen.

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines dipped into the Brandon talent pool with their fourth round pick, 34th overall, selecting forward Kelly Prince, while the Neepawa Natives with the next selection chose Brandon forward Jesse Roziere.
The Stampeders wrapped up the Brandon selection by taking forward Brock Bastone in the fifth round, 49th overall.

Waywayseecappo had the first overall selection and chose defenceman David McKelvey-Gunson of the Winnipeg AAA Bantam Monarchs.
