I think we knew Levi would be picked, but I really didn't see Dane coming! What a pleasant surprise.

Best of luck you two, and try not to impress your respective teams at training camp too much, we really want you back next season. :D

And the best part of all was they were both drafted before Dorsett! I love it!

I agree that we all knew Levi was going but it was a surprise with Dane. Good luck to you both.

Congrats on those two. And for those that didnt get picked i noticed a lot of older players taken in the draft this year so play a strong game and you just may be selected next year.

Does anyone else find it odd that there's no statement on the Bronco website talking about Levi and Dane getting drafted?

I know they're a little slow to update the page, but this is still a big deal for the team that should have gone up ASAP. Just my personal feelings.

Congrats to the both of ya's. At least Levi wasn't missed in the NHL draft like he was in the bantam draft. Talk about your diamond in the rough.
If Dane keeps up with improving his game like he did last year he'll be a legit NHL contender. Way to go guys!!

Also Dane being drafted shouldnt suprise with how well he was playing at the end of the year. If my memory serves me right, was he not our top defenseman?

The Bronco website is having problems right now and is froze up. They are trying to get it repaired by Sask tel and they are working on it.

The Crowley pick surprised us (Lightning prospect followers), too.

I asked their head scout about him and he said Crowley has great character and that's what put him over the top with them.

What's the book on him?

Dane has good size at 6'2" / 207 lbs. He's physical, mean and doesn't back down. He also moves the puck fairly well.

Saturday, June 24th was a big day for two Bronco players as the National Hockey League held their annual Entry Draft.

Broncos 18-year-old forward Levi Nelson was selected in the 6th round, 158th overall by the Boston Bruins. Nelson, who was a rookie last season for the Broncos, finished the season 4th in team scoring with 38 points (21G; 17A) and was one of the most consistent Broncos all season long. Nelson was named the teams Rookie of the Year at the Broncos Annual Awards Banquet in March.

Also drafted on Saturday was 19-year-old defenseman Dane Crowley. Crowley, who was acquired by the Broncos via a trade deadline deal on January 10th, was selected by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 6th round, 168th overall. Crowley led all Bronco defenseman last season with 21 points (1G; 20A) in 71 games and was named the teams Top Defenseman in 2005/06.

Boltprospects - I have been impressed with Crowley since we stole him from Saskatoon. He is a solid two way defensman, that plays a strong physical game, and will drop the mitts. He ended up with 12 pts in 29 gms (2pts in 4 playoff gms) with Swift on a team that had trouble putting the puck in the net. Once he got to Swift, he really blossomed with an increased role. He has really improved and could develope into a solid NHL d-man. What really impressed the crowd in Swift, was his first game as a Bronco, when he absolutely took Wacey Rabbits head off with a huge hip check, because they had been teammates the day before. (Swift played Saskatoon the day after the trade deadline.)

What do you think his upside is?

And a more immediate question, could he hit 40 points for SC next season, or is that a little far-fetched?

Thanks again.

I think 40 points for a d-man is related to the skill of the forwards in front of him. Crowley makes a great first pass and could certainly hit 40 points on a squad with good fire power up front.

translation: for the last two years our leading scorers have barely hit 40 points, it may be unreasonable to expect Crowley to do so.

Dane is a good D-man. Can play it tough and can do awesome with the gloves off. Has a very good pass out and is solid behind his blue line. I think he will be one of our leaders this year. The change of scenery from Saskatoon to Swift Current and his changing role with his new club rejuvenated Dane. Nothing against Saskatoon but the increase in ice time and leadership on a younger team is making Dane a solid contributor.
