I'm not too sure about Valach but Bartek looks like a solid pick up.

KENNEWICK, WA – The Tri-City Americans today have selected two players in the Canadian Hockey League’s annual two round European Entry Draft.

With the first choice (20th overall) the Americans selected 17-year-old defenseman Juraj Valach (pronounced: Your-eye Valak). The 6’5”, 190 defender is from Slovakia where he played for HKM Zvolen (U-20 league). In 42 games Juraj had seven goals, 14 points and 54 penalty minutes. He was an impressive plus 25 defensively. In 174 career games, Valach has 27 goals, 60 points and 209 penalty minutes. He is a career plus 106.

“Juraj has excellent size and is a very good skater with good mobility,” said Americans governor/general manager Bob Tory. “He makes good first passes out of the zone and has good puck skills. Juraj possesses a powerful shot from the point and plays in all situations.”

“Valach is projected as a high pick in next year’s NHL Entry Draft,” continued Tory. “Juraj will complement our young blueliners Mestery, Schmidt and Toll as they all will grow together.”

The Americans then selected 18-year-old left wing Daniel Bartek with the second pick (79th overall). Bartek is a native of the Czech Republic and is 6’3”, 195 pounds. Bartek toiled for HC Olomouc (U-20) last year. In 44 games he had 13 goals, 22 points and 12 penalty minutes. He was a plus four. In 146 career games, Bartek has tallied 45 goals, 84 points and 36 penalty minutes. He is a plus 36.

“Daniel comes to the Americans highly recommended by his agent Rich Evans,” said Tory. “He has good size, works extremely hard, is responsible defensively and doesn’t shy away from the physical game.”

“Bartek has put up good numbers with Olomouc Juniors,” Tory continued. “He has a good offensive upside to his game and is eligible for the upcoming NHL Entry Draft next June.”

Agent Rich Evans who represented former Americans Juraj Gracik and Igor Bacek has stated that both players are expected to attend Americans main training camp in late August at Toyota Center in Kennewick.

I'm not sure that they will pick 3 today, but Gracik and Bacek will not be back with the team next year.

Where are Gracik and Bacek going?

Bacek will be playing for the Slovakian national team next year and Gracik is rumored to be playing with either an Atlanta Thrashers minor league team or on the same national team I believe. Either way, with the team drafting 2 Euro's and Gracik would be playing as a 20, I would think that the Ams know he will not be back.
