ZIMMERMAN INVITED TO US NATIONAL JUNIOR CAMP
8/4/2006
Spokane Chief defenseman Sean Zimmerman has been invited to participate in the United States National Junior Team Evaluation Camp in Lake Placid, N.Y., August 5th-14th. Participating players are candidates for the 2006 U.S. National Junior Team that will compete in the 2007 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship, Dec. 26, 2006-Jan. 5, 2007, in Mora and Leksand, Sweden.

The camp includes 45 of the top American players under the age of 20 and will feature practices and eight scrimmages against Finland and Sweden.

This past season, Zimmerman was named the John “Hitman” Hern Defenseman of the Year after appearing in all 72 games and posting a career high 21 points, including 19 assists. The New Jersey Devils seventh round selection in 2005 signed a contract with the NHL club this past June. Following the Chiefs 2006 regular season, Zimmerman appeared in six games with the Albany River Rats, New Jersey’s AHL affiliate. Zimmerman has played 210 career WHL games. The Colorado native has made his home in Spokane after one season with the Braves of the KIJHL and getting selected in the seventh round of the WHL’s Bantam Draft in 2003 by the Chiefs. Zimmerman was the Chiefs Rookie of the Year in 2003-04.

Saw this on the white board and couldn't be more happy!! Congrats to Sean as he is probably one of the best stay-at-home defenceman I've seen in quite some time.

I'm glad hes finally getting some recognition, not only from the US but also the Devils and if he continues his solid play he definately, DEFINATELY will be a shoe in for the Devils for years to come. He is perfect for the system they run.

It would be good to see him, in his last year with the Chiefs, make the team. Hopefully he gets looked at fairly being that he is a WHL'er trying to make a college hockey preferred team.
