KENNEWICK, WA - The Tri-City Americans today have obtained 17-year-old defenseman Ivan Simunovic from the Seattle Thunderbirds in exchange for a conditional fifth round draft choice in the 2008 WHL Bantam Draft.

The 6’3”, 185 pound blueliner is a native of La Habra, California and played for the Los Angeles Jr. Kings select AAA U-16 team. “I had an opportunity to watch Ivan during the May U.S. Player Identification Camp held by the WHL in Anaheim and was impressed by his ability,” said Americans governor/general manager Bob Tory. “Ivan will report to training camp later this month and we expect him to compete for a spot on our club. This trade also improves our depth chart for future seasons.”

Simunovic joins 15-year-old defenseman Jason Nash and 16-year-old left wing Jeff Bain on the Americans 50-player protected list. All three are a product of the same program. Nash and Bain were selected by the Americans in the WHL’s special U.S. Player Draft on May 16th.
