From what i have heard is that they have brought in some specilized equipment in and have found the leak in the pipes that run below the ice surface.

Hopefully they find no further leaks, and get the ice surface up and running.

So far training camps and exhibition games have been held in the kinplex, a smaller ice surface.

Search for arena leak nears end

Crews at The Arena hope they literally found the break they were looking for.
After about a month of unsuccessful searching, the maintenance staff believe they have found the leak in one of the cooling pipes, which is woven into the concrete pad of the 36-year-old facility. The leak had avoided detection despite the best efforts of those at the hockey rink and an expert who was brought in from Edmonton last week.
After turning on the cooling plant, the leak was believed to be uncovered Thursday night. Steve Foster is a bit cautious about making 100 per cent confirmations about the situation, because it has dragged on for so long with no resolution.
“We found a spot that is very suspicious,” said Foster, the operations supervisor at The Arena. “We are pretty confident that is the one. We have been working on it all day to try and confirm that.
“We had a pipe that came out. The pipe blew a part and there was a joint on it.”
The pipe that came out was a foot in length. It was dug partially into the concrete pad, and was connected to a longer pipe.
Foster said that section of pipe was the only area that had caused any troubles. He believes the pin-sized leak is close to where the line broke.
“I think it is a pretty high probability,” said Foster, who was looking tired from the ordeal that has lasted since Aug. 7. “I haven’t said that to anyone before. It is the only one that has done anything for us.”
The section of pipe in question is located underneath the end boards beside the lobby area. The section of pipe can be accessed by going into a closet-type door located to the left of the media and scouts lounge.
Foster said one more test will be performed today before any repairs begin.
“We are going to, at this point, start the ice plant again and get it cold and see if we can recreate the leak again,” said Foster. “Hopefully, it will show up where we expect.”
If this final test works, Foster said the repairs will be made in enough time to allow The Arena to have ice by Friday, Sept. 13.
Because of this development, the Tigers exhibition match against the Moose Jaw Warriors on Wednesday at 7 p.m. has been moved to the Kinplex. Tigers head coach and general manager Willie Desjardins says he understands the situation.
“The city guys are working hard,” said Desjardins. “We are getting the next step closer here. We will make the best of the situation.”
