My thoughts...

Goalies:
Jeff Bosch – He is amazing. If the Pats didn’t already have 2 solid keepers entrenched in the 1 and 2 spots, he would be a Pat this year. He was the best overall goalie at rookie camp and out of the 4 remaining netminders he is easily 3rd or a 2b. He has an awesome glove hand (which he apparently likes to show off, might hurt him or scare the opponent away from going glove side). He is very quick and agile… will be a WHLer soon.

Ryan Nieszner – Listed as 6’1… haha… right… maybe with skates on. He is still a decent goalie with lots of potential… But time may be running out for this 18 year old. Very quick and still is acrobatic, like he was when he was 16. He competes hard and doesn’t appear to be easily flustered. I really hope that he can find work in the Dub somewhere… but I just don't think it will be Regina.

David Reekie – Will call him Pats #1a. The Pats need Reekie… at least until Rowat can take the job (which may be sooner than later). Seems super-confident (might even be a tad bit arrogant in net). Top notch reflexes and super agile in the net. His glove hand is superb. He seems to be better positionally when facing shooters, rebound control seems better this year. Just needs to be consistent.

Linden Rowat – Pats #1b. He’s next in line. Very good goalie. Never seems to get flustered, level headed kid (even last year). Positional goalie who plays angles well. He has good reflexes and has a confidence about him every time in the net. With opportunity he will be the go to guy. Goalie of the future, the future could be now.

Overall – with the performances of the goalies this year, the Pats brass might have themselves a situation in where they might be able to move a goalie. Will have to see about that. Because we have 3 very capable goalies in line for the job.

Depth Chart:
1a. Reekie
1b. Rowat
3. Bosch
4. Nieszner

My thoughts...

Defence:
Dru Cotterill – Really decent prospect here for the Pats. Seems a bit weak strength-wise for his size (6’0, 188). Decent in his own zone. Never seems to panic or make rash decisions. One more year of midget will do wonders for this kid. Will make the Pats in 2007-08.

Kyle Deck – Captain of the ship. People will always question his heart due to his injuries… But what more cam you ask of a guy. He is one of the Pats PP QB’s and will be until he graduates. He hasn’t really been known for his defensive ability his whole career so why start now. He is offence. 42 points in 05-06 is pretty decent considering the teams leading scorer on the team had 58 points… pretty decent. He sees a lot of icetime. He is a good passer, good skater and has decent speed.

Matt Delahey – Has grown up considerably. Still looks like he is 12 years old. Very steady, makes few mistakes. He probably wont put up major amounts of points but will be looked upon for his defence. Could stick this year.

Spencer Fraipont – After making the Pats in 2005-06… then getting injured. Spencer is well on his way to making the Pats yet again. Very poised, good size good speed for a bigger guy. But might be in tough with the younger guys pushing him for ice.

Curtis Kulchar – Very similar to Craig Schira. I wont call him a Schira clone as I never seen Curtis hit anyone yet. But he skates an awful lot like Schira and has a similar build. Has good speed and is really good in the d-zone. Might push a vet or 2.

Logan Pyett – Pats number 1 defenceman. Extremely offensive minded. Has really good speed. Has improved his shot… has a howitzer now. Will lead the Pats d-men in scoring this year. The “new rules” are going to help his game even more this year with the crackdown on obstruction. He has improved in pretty much all aspects of play… even a bit physical this year.

Derek Reinhart – the Pat that everyone loves to hate. I think he is a steady stay-at-home d-man. Has little to no offensive upside. Isn’t afraid to stick up for his teammates. Even though he is injury prone, he plays injured… which imo shows that he has heart. Apparently a real likeable guy.

Nick Ross – One word… Amazing. All around game is awesome. See Craig Schira. When paired with Schira... they make one of the best combo's in the East.

Craig Schira – One word… Amazing. All around game is awesome. See Nick Ross. When paired with Ross... they make one of the best combo's in the East.

Colten Teubert – Hasn’t had a super great camp but will make the squad. Super fast, has a great shot. He seems to be slow to react to some situations… but that will come. He might even garner some PP time, but that might be hard to come by.

Overall – The Pats have a couple of tough decisions to make. They have their top 4 d-men then it’s really a question mark.

Depth chart:
1. Pyett
2. Deck
3. Schira
4. Ross
5. Reinhart
6. Teubert
7. Fraipont
8. Delahey
9. Kulchar
10. Cotterill

Pairings:
Deck-Pyett
Ross-Schira
*Reinhart-Teubert
*Fraipont-Delahey

*note: these guys might be interchangeable… Who knows maybe one or 2 might see some forward duties.

My thoughts...

Forwards
Justin Bernhardt – Seems to have filled out a bit this year. Appears to have got his stuff together and focusing on hockey (Pro invite will help that). He seems to have found another gear and can motor. I really never noticed his shot prior to this year’s camp… but it has improved. His passing seems to be better. Will be looked upon to carry more of the offensive burden left if Kalus doesn’t come back.

Scott Brownlee – No comments from this year as he has been injured. But from last year, he was a feisty, tough hombre.

Jordan Eberle – Very talented kid. Speed to burn. Good passer. Good offensive upside. Deceptive shot.

Ian Duval – Has improved his skating… which has led to what seems like more speed. Has improved his offence and overall game. Seems committed to getting better and it shows. Was even using the body during camp.

Garrett Festerling – Still can’t get over how good it has been to have him here. Great faceoff man. Very fast, good shot, good stickhandling ability. Worked well with Kalus last year so hopefully there is some magic left for his linemates this year. Will be one of the team’s top scorers.

Derek Hulak – Very poised youngster. Fast and skilled. Good passing ability and decent shot. Even played some PP point in the Ice Breaker tournament.

Jared Jagow – Energy guy. Has good hands. Will be a good PK-type player. Has good wheels and good shot. Checking forward.

Brett Leffler – Apparently didn’t get much bigger but looks to have filled out. Has improved his foot-speed and skating overall is better. Hard hitter and will chip in offensively this year.

Levi Lind – No comments as he is injured. Seems to have gotten bigger tho, and in the one practice I seen him take part in he looks to have gained some foot-speed.

Jason MacDonald – Has improved in all aspects of his game but other guys will be pushing him for ice-time.

Ryan McDonald – Still has raw talent needing to be released. Seems to have brought more of a chippy-style to his game this year. His offensive skill was prominent in camp. Amazing stick-handler, good passer and good shot.

Brayden Metz – Great face-off guy. Good skill. But Having him as a 4th line centre will not help him. Another year of Midget will make him that much better.

Brett Miller – Similar to Brett Leffler. Loves to hit, has a wicked backhand. Not afraid to drop the mitts. And is a force in front of the opposing net. As he is too young will play midget and maybe get a taste of action later in the year.

Kyle Ross – One of the Pats best overall players. His shot has improved dramatically. He was a top Pats faceoff guy last year but he has improved that aspect as well. All around game has gotten better. Will easily be one of the Pats’ leading scorers.

Michael Senseman – Has been playing like he wants to stay here. Checking, passing, killing penalties, you name it he has pretty much done it. But I seriously don’t see him as a top 6 forward. A checking line guy.

Justin Scott – Decent skater with above average speed. Seems to lack finish (like previously reported by Rebels fans). Looks to be a checker and PK guy.

Tyson Sievert – Man I wish he wasn’t a 20 year old. He is trying to show his worth as an overage in the W. Tough and gritty. Too bad there isn’t room for one more overage.

Niko Snellman – This kid can HIT. Ask Michael Iorio of Prince George and anyone else that he has cracked, when he hits… you know it. He is built like a steam roller. Not super fast but can skate. Has good passing ability and a sneaky deceptive shot.

Depth Chart- Hard to decide where players could play. There will be debate all year as to where guys could/should/would play. I wont put a depth chart together no but I will leave this:

Positions guys played primarily in camp:
LW: Hulak, Jagow, McDonald, Scott, Sievert & Snellman (Brownlee is a LW)
C: Duval, Festerling, MacDonald, Metz & Ross (Lind is a C)
RW: Bernhardt, Eberle, Leffler, Miller & Senseman

Quite unfortunet he had to be the odd man out. He had a good pre-season I thought and played quite well at the end of last season in the playoffs. Really sucks, though we all knew it was going to happen.

I know this isn't Pats news really anymore... Tyson Sievert never played for the Milionaires. He was traded to Bonnyville of the AJHL. I heard that he wouldn't report (not 100% sure on that)...

September 23/06
The Melville Millionaires trade 1986 forward Tyson Sievert to the Bonnyville Pontiacs (AJHL) for 1987 forward Bryant Dyke and future considerations.Gets to play for former Pat Chad Mercier.
