Only someone with the last name Wang would sign a player for 15 years.

Pretty retarded if you ask me.

oh them nutty Islander management types -- is it the air on the Island or something???

you would have thought they would have learned from the Yashin fiasco, and really I don't see DiPietro as a franchise goalie to build a team around. Worst move this year, DiPietro is 25 now so they are going to be paying a goalie 4.5M when he's forty and if his career is cut short due to injury the full salary will be guaranteed. I think the US health and safety folk need to check the water suppply on the Island, obviously someone has thrown some acid in their water supply and the whole management team is tripping. :skeptical

Wang Island Iced Tea:

1 Part Crushed Yashin
2 Parts Muddy Snow
1 Part Delusion

Stir with Wang until desired inconsistency.

I think it is about time someone pulled a tent over the circus that is the Islanders. That 10 year Yashin deal was unbelievably stupid (and perpetrated by the same team). When they signed Yashin to the 10 year deal, he had actually had 3 or 4 good seasons prior to that. DiPietro on the other hand has done NOTHING since he was first signed, and has actually had a few seasons where he was absolutely horrible. 3 or 4 years from now when they snag a half-decent free agent goaltender to try to keep their heads above water, they are going to have a so-so backup goaltender that is making almost 5 million dollars per season for the next 11 seasons!

A column from Scott Burnside from ESPN.com... "Islanders make another senseless deal." I think it kinda sums up the whole situation and the state of Islander Nation.

the dumber move today for the nhl was bobby clark signing ryan kesler to a 1.9m offersheet. double what he should get. so arbitrators will compare all young 10 goal scorers to him and will all be awarded around the same price.
so now gm's are pissed around the league. in the cap world this is a dark cloudy day

A column by Joy Russo of ESPN.com titled "Where will we, DiPietro be in 2021?"
