Brandon, Manitoba -- The Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings will have 19-year old netminder Tyler Plante back in town in time for this weekend's home and home pre-season series with the Regina Pats.

The Wheat Kings have learned that Plante has been assigned to the WHL club, by the National Hockey League's Florida Panthers.

A second round draft choice of the Panthers (32nd overall in 2005), Plante spent the past week at a four-team rookie tournament in Toronto.

In sixty games during the 2005-06 season, the former WHL Rookie of the Year compiled a 3.32 goals against average and two shutouts.

His return leaves the Wheat Kings with four goalkeepers including veteran Kurt Jory and rookies Joe Caligiuri and Andrew Hayes.

Meanwhile in other NHL training camp news, veteran defenceman Dustin Kohn begins main camp with the New York Islanders in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia later today while Codey Burki is expected to advance to Colorado's main camp in Denver. A second round pick of the Isles in 2005, Kohn was obtained from the Calgary Hitmen last season in exchange for left-winger Derek LeBlanc while Burki was chosen by the Avalanche in round two of the 2006 entry draft in Vancouver.

Slovakian born right-winger Juraj Simek, a sixth round pick of the Vancouver Canucks this past summer, is expected to remain for that club's main training camp, to be held in Vernon, B.C.

Simek was Brandon's first selection in July's Canadian Hockey League Import Draft and is expected to begin the year as the Wheat Kings lone import.

Closer to home, the Wheat Kings will travel to Regina on Friday before closing out their 4-game pre-season schedule on Saturday night at the Keystone Centre. Brandon will then begin final preparations for their 2006-07 Coca Cola Home Opener, to be held on Friday, September 22nd against the visiting Moose Jaw Warriors.
