The Rebels came back from their 5-4 overtime loss Friday night, with a solid effort against the Kamloops Blazers at the ENMAX Centrium. With a crowd of 6,148 gathered Saturday night to take in the game the Rebels found their offence and scored 6 times en route to a 6-3 win. Rookie goalie, Morgan Clark picked up his second win of the year and first on home ice.

This game started with a fight as Jason Lynch and Matt Kassian dropped the gloves just 2 seconds into the start of the game. For the second night in a row the Red Deer Rebels opened the scoring. Saturday night it would be forward, Dustin Moore connecting for his first WHL goal just over 2 minutes into the game. It wouldn’t take long for the Blazers to strike back as they scored 3 times in just under 5 minutes to take a 3-1 lead before the halfway point of the first period. The Blazers outshot the Rebels 12-10 in the period.

The Rebels started their comeback effort early in the second period, when Brett Sutter connected on the powerplay to pull the Rebels within one. Vandermeer and Hanzal would pick up the assists on the goal. Less than a minute later it would be Kirill Starkov scoring his 9th on the season to draw the Rebels even and tie the game at 3. Both Sutter and Starkov’s goals were with the man advantage. At the 16:58 mark of the period Jordan Knackstedt would find a streaking Martin Hanzal and send him in alone where Hanzal would deke out the Blazers goalie to score his 4th of the season. The Rebels went 2 for 3 on the powerplay in the second frame and took a 4-3 lead to the dressing room after 40 minutes.

Martin Hanzal started the third period the same way he closed out the second period. At the 1:27 mark of the period Hanzal connected for his second goal of the night and gave the Rebels some breathing room with a 2 goal lead. The Rebels clicked on the powerplay for the third time on the night when Kirill Starkov took a Mike Berube pass and put it behind Blazers goalie, Dustin Butler. That would give the Rebels a 3 goal lead as they stormed back for 5 unanswered goals to win the game 6-3.
