After the Seattle Thunderbirds' fifth shootout loss, a dejected 16-year-old goalie named Jacob De Serres was in shock.

Left wing Jan Eberle's last shot couldn't find the goal as the Kamloops Blazers defeated the T-birds 2-1 before 3,011 at KeyArena on Saturday night.

"We didn't play the full 60 minutes," said De Serres, who recorded his second shootout loss. "I think we're over-thinking it.

"We need to relax and play it like it's practice."

In his third start, De Serres kept Seattle (4-3-0-5) in the game during a lackadaisical second period.

Kamloops (8-4-1-1) had 11 shots on goal in the second compared to four by Seattle, and De Serres helped kill a five-on-three Blazer advantage to start the period.

"That's the biggest thing about being a goalie, is bearing down when your team isn't all there," De Serres said. "They made the saves easy and cleared the rebounds."

Kamloops defender Ray Macias capitalized off a poor T-birds pass halfway through the second period and scored the equalizing goal unassisted.

In the first period, Thunderbirds left wing Greg Scott scored his second goal of the season during a power play just more than six minutes in when he redirected a slap shot by Scott Jackson.

It was a game of alternating power plays in the third. Despite aggressive offense on both sides, neither team could take advantage.

Juuso Puustinen and Ivan Rohac scored for Kamloops in the shootout. Scott scored for Seattle, but Aaron Gagnon and Eberle couldn't convert.

"This is really disappointing, not getting the 'W,' " De Serres said. "The whole goal of it is getting the win."

Seattle hasn't won in a shootout this season, but the last three of the Thunderbirds' wins have come in overtime.
