The Swift Current Broncos announced their two additional Alternate Captains on Thursday afternoon.

Second year 18 year old forwards Dale Weise and Zack Smith will be wearing letters on their jerseys for the remainder of the season, joining Captain Myles Rumsey and other Alternate Captains Jeremy Schenderling and Dane Crowley. The players will rotate the letter, with one wearing it at all home games and the other wearing it on all road games.

The players in the dressing room voted on the remaining Alternate Captains while Rumsey, Schenderling, and Crowley were chosen by GM/Head Coach Dean Chynoweth at the beginning of the year. “I wanted to wait to see who would emerge out of the dressing room and felt that the players should have some say in who these guys are,” commented Chynoweth.

Weise came to the Broncos after a trade with the Medicine Hat Tigers last season along with teammate Spencer McAvoy. He posted 4 goals and 14 assists in 53 games last season and was named the teams Most Improved Player in 2005/06.

Smith, a local player from Maple Creek, SK, has emerged to be one of the teams strongest penalty killers this season and has also spent some time on the 1st line with Kyle Bortis and Jeremy Schenderling. Smith recorded 2 goals and 5 assists in 64 games played in 2005/06.

The addition to the Broncos leadership core will take place immediately, beginning with their game in Medicine Hat this weekend on Saturday night. Game time is at 8:30pm local time.

Interesting that we'll be having four alternates on the team this season. Wonder if it'll help fire these guys up more, with the number of leaders on the team.
