yeah a great read -- and always good to hear about Paul - the fact that the Canucks didn't offer him a contract still makes me burn. I mean here's a player elevating their game in your backyard and you don't think its worth giving them a sniff?

No we gotta pick up a plumber like Fitz or a no-name like Tremblay.. lame -- beaucoup lame.

Good for Paul though.

.

I would have thought you would've tired of the corporates, err the Canucks and there ripoff, loser ways by now...
I guess it only took me 30 years to figure it out...
Now I have a real team to cheer for :thumb:

I'm with you on this one, Rinkrat. My life improved tenfold as soon as I stopped stressing out over the Canux and became a reborn WHL'er. :thumb:

No doubt I'll be a lame-o and jump back on the Canucks bandwagon if they make the playoffs this season, but I'll deal with the shame if the situation arises.

actually after watching tonights snoozefest -- I might have to agree with you rinkrat

I would have felt ripped off majorly had I paid an arm and a leg to see that dreck -- thanks bettman you goon -- the NHLisation of the WHL has me very worried right now.

I wouldn't call Bettman a goon. Remember he likes non-physical hockey.

As do most fans right?

right you are Kassian -- although it was not meant in that way -- call him a goof then -- doesn't quite seem strong enough though .. and anything I really think of he and his cabal would get this post severely edited :thumb:

Seems a little harsh no? Wasn't Mitch Bartley invited to Canucks prospect camp? Wasn't Dustin Slade at this years camp? The Canucks are under no obligation to treat Vancouver Giants players any different than any other player. Paul had a great final year with Vancouver. But he did do it as a 20-year old, playing against boys. We've all seen examples of guys staying in the WHL til their overage year only to rip it up and then stumble at the next level.
Adam Courchaine comes to mind. He's now toiling in Europe where the money is better than the ECHL.

Fitzpatrick and Tremblay, for all their faults, are veterans and most NHL teams would be happy to have them as their 6th or 7th guys - as they would be on the Canucks if Salo and Mitchell were both not out with injury. Paul didn't even make the AHL this year, but suddenly you're sliding him into the top 6 on a club preaching defense?

I know every Giants fan loves to pick on the Nucks, but I think this might be a little unjustified.

This is the team who drafted a defenseman that was -39.LOL

I think that Bartley could be producing at the same pace as Linden. For less $.

That is my big knock on the Nucks this year. They shouldn't have signed him. Give him a front office job for sure, but Trev...It's time to hang em up pal. Go out with your head high. Not looking like a washed up player searching for his youth.

I'm not entirely sure what that has to do with this conversation, but I think you'd be hard-pressed to find many who think that drafting Bourdon was a mistake. He's 19 and currently in the NHL (most likely going back to junior) while Albers is 21 and in the ECHL.

Bourdon isnt a Canuck anymore

To be honest, I have never been a Bourdon fan, watching him this year with the Canucks he just looked totally out of place.

Going off topic here, but if you really want to laugh, check out the Orca's draft history. For those of you that didn't live through this nightmare!
At least you could afford a ticket when .500 hockey was the goal in Vancouver...

^ yeah I've done that too -- what's even more frightening is looking at who was drafted after the picks in the various years and then you really start to feel ill. :dead:  :(

yeah it might be a bit unfair H24, but the Nucks have awful scouts, and tend to either draft from Sweden, the Q, or somewhere is the Michigan/Minnesota area.

hardly any from the dub, or other areas -- it might not have always been that way, but lately that's where the majority of the top three rounds of picks have come from..

anyway - considering this has turned into a bit of canucks thread

here's some news from the NHL club

Aquilini Investment Group Purchases John E. McCaw's Interest in the Vancouver Canucks and General Motors Place
Wed. Nov 8, 2006

Vancouver, B.C. The Aquilini Investment Group owned by Francesco, Roberto and Paolo Aquilini, have entered into an agreement to purchase the remaining 50 percent share of the Vancouver Canucks and General Motors Place that is owned by John E. McCaw Jr.. The Aquilini Investment Group will own 100 percent of the Canucks and General Motors Place.

Todays announcement is exciting for our family and we are proud that we will be the 100 percent owners of this great franchise and world class facility, said Francesco Aquilini, a Managing Director, Aquilini Investment Group. We would like to thank John McCaw for his tremendous efforts as owner of the club since 1994. He has shown great commitment to this city and to this team. The business of hockey in Vancouver is very strong now and John McCaw deserves credit for that.

I thank the outstanding fans of the Canucks in Vancouver and throughout British Columbia for their passion and their support for the team, said John E. McCaw Jr. Owning the Canucks has been an honour and I am proud of the work the organization has done in Vancouver over the years. I am confident that the business is in a very strong position moving forward. The Aquilini family is committed to making the Canucks the best organization in the NHL. I know I am leaving the team in good hands.

The Aquilini Investment Group originally purchased 50 percent of the Canucks and General Motors Place on November 16, 2004. Formal League approval took place on March 9, 2005. The transaction between the Aquilini Investment Group and McCaw is expected to close early in 2007. The sale is subject to NHL approval.

The Aquilini Investment Group is a multifaceted family business, which was founded by Mr. Luigi Aquilini, almost 50 years ago. Aquilini Investment Group has built a successful private family business with real estate holdings and operating entities located in almost all major cities across Canada.

Aquilini Investment Group's Head Office is in Vancouver, B.C.
