Streaking Tips win sixth straight game
Everett starts a 10-day swing through the WHL's East Division with a 4-2 victory over Saskatoon

SASKATOON, Saskatchewan - The Everett Silvertips made a solid start to their swing through the Western Hockey League's East Division.

Playing the first of six games against the East Division in 10 days, the Silvertips scored a comfortable 4-2 victory over the Saskatoon Blades on Wednesday night.

Jesse Burt scored his first career WHL goal, Peter Mueller and Kyle Beach each had a goal and an assist, and Moises Gutierrez also scored for Everett (11-1-0-1), which increased its winning streak to six games. Zach Hamill added an assist, giving him a point in all 13 of Everett's games this season.

Everett goaltender David Reekie, making just his second start for the Silvertips and playing in his hometown, made 20 saves to earn the win.

Everett also dominated the special-teams battle. Everett scored on three of its first five power plays and finished 3-for-7. Meanwhile, the Tips held Saskatoon to 1-for-8 on the power play.

The one blot on the ledger for Everett was that Beach had to be helped off the ice late in the third period after being hit from behind by Brad Cole. Beach's status was not known.

Cole and Blair Macaulay scored for Saskatoon (5-9-0-1). Braden Holtby made 25 saves in net for the Blades.

Everett dominated play early, but the score was tied 1-1 after one period as the teams traded power-play goals.

Everett struck first at 15 minutes, 58 seconds when, with the Tips on a five-on-three advantage, Gutierrez tipped in Mueller's shot to make it 1-0.

Saskatoon tied it at 18:34 when Cole pinched in from the point and put a shot past Reekie to make it 1-1.

However, Everett's superiority began to show in the second period as the Tips scored three straight to take control of the game.

First, at 3:26 with Everett on the power play, Mueller's shot from the point got past a screened Holtby, restoring Everett's lead.

Then at 10:31 with the Tips again on the power play, Holtby misplayed a puck, creating a scramble out front. Players whacked at the puck with Burt eventually forcing it in to make it 3-1.

Everett went ahead 4-1 at 16:38 when Beach made a nice move, then backhanded a shot past Holtby.

Saskatoon was gifted a consolation goal when a bad turnover by Everett defenseman Eric Doyle allowed Macaulay to walk in free on goal and beat Reekie.
