Officiating Program Of Excellence
Created: Nov 8, 2006

CALGARY, AB - The Western Hockey League, in partnership with the National Hockey League, Hockey Canada and the four Western Branches will be participating in the Officiating Program of Excellence (OPOE) in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, November 9 – 11, 2006.

Fifteen of the top officiating prospects from western Canada have been invited to attend this event which will include classroom presentations and instructional ice sessions. Officials will also be supervised and coached in game situations to assist with their development.

“The OPOE is a very significant opportunity for the officials selected to attend” commented Kevin Muench, WHL Director of Officiating. “Not only is this an excellent opportunity for the officials to receive instruction and coaching to enhance their on-ice performance, officials participating in the OPOE will also be considered to officiate at the Canada Winter Games”.

This is the 4th year the WHL has participated in the OPOE.
