Everett Faces Three Tough Opponents this Week
11/20/06 - Western Hockey League (WHL) Everett Silvertips
The Everett Silvertips will be seriously tested this week as the hockey club will host three home games against very good teams at the Everett Events Center. On Wednesday, November 22, the Silvertips will battle their first Central Division foe in the Calgary Hitmen at the Everett Events Center at 7:05 p.m. Everett will battle their I-5 rival, Seattle Thunderbirds at the Everett Events Center on Friday night. Game time is set for 7:35 p.m. The home weekend will conclude against US Division rival, Tri-City Americans on Saturday night at the E.E.C. Heading into the big week, the Silvertips are in 1st place in the US Division with an 18-2-0-1 (37 points) record.


SILVERTIPS LEADING SCORERS

The Silvertips are led in scoring by Peter Mueller (7 goals, 24 assists) with 31 points. Zach Hamill (11 goals, 18 assists) is 2nd on the hockey club in scoring with 29 points while first year forward Kyle Beach (12 goals, 11 assists) is 3rd on the team in scoring with 23 points. Mueller currently leads the Silvertips in assists (24) and Beach leads the team in goals scored (12). Silvertips defenseman, Graham Potuer leads the hockey club in +/- with a +12. In goal, Leland Irving has posted 14 wins, 1.41 GAA, 94.0% SP and 5 Shutouts. David Reekie is currently 4-0 with the Silvertips and has posted a 1.50 GAA, 93.5% SP.


SILVERTIPS AMONG LEAGUE LEADERS

Silvertips forward Peter Mueller (7 goals, 24 assists) is currently tied for 6th in the WHL in scoring with 31 points. Mueller is also 3rd in the WHL in assists (24). Zach Hamill (11 goals, 18 assists) is currently tied for 8th in the WHL in scoring with 29 points. First year forward Kyle Beach (12 goals, 11 assists) is 7th in the WHL in rookie scoring with 23 points and the leading scorer among all 16 year olds in the WHL. Defenseman Jason Fransoo (5 goals, 15 assists) is 9th among all WHL defensemen in scoring with 20 points. In goal, Leland Irving is leading all WHL netminders in GAA (1.41), SP (94.0%), Shutouts (5) and tied for 1st in Wins (14).


SILVERTIPS SPECIAL TEAMS

The Everett Silvertips are currently 2nd in the WHL on the power play (44 for 182, 24.2%) and 2nd in the WHL on the penalty kill (144 for 158, 91.1%).


HAMILL BECOMES ALL TIME ASSIST LEADER IN TEAM HISTORY

Silvertips forward Zach Hamill became the all time leader in assists in franchise history with his 83rd assist in his career with the Silvertips against the Prince George Cougars on November 17. Hamill is currently 4 points away from becoming the all time leading scorer in Silvertips history. The current leader Torrie Wheat posted 126 points in his career with the Silvertips.


WHAT A WINNING STREAK!!!

The Everett Silvertips longest winning streak in franchise history ended at 13 games after a 4-2 loss at Seattle on November 18. Here are a few facts about the Silvertips 13-game winning streak.

Saturday night will be the second of eight meetings between the two US Division rivals. The Silvertips are 1-0 against the Americans this season and 1-0 against Tri-City at the Everett Events Center. The Silvertips are 16-11-2 (OTL)-3 (Tie) all time against the Americans in franchise history. Everett is also 9-4-3 (Tie) all time against the Americans at the Everett Events Center. In their last meeting on October 17, the Silvertips defeated the Americans 4-1 at the Everett Events Center. Gutierrez Leads Pack in 5-3 Win over Tri-Cities
Mueller Posts 4 Assists in Win

Everett, WA - After a very intense and physical game, the Everett Silvertips reigned supreme by a final score of 5-3 over their number two division rivals, the Tri-City Americans. This was the second meeting of eight between these two clubs and the Silvertips lead the series 2-0. Everett jumps up to 21-2-0-1 and 43 points while Tri-Cities drops to 16-9, second place in the US Division with 32 points.

The match began fast and furious as 5 of the 8 goals scored in tonight's game came in the first period. The Americans struck first at 3:13 on a power play. Chris Inglis earned the marker after Tri-Cities had crashed the net and forced the puck through. Drew Hoff and Tanner Gillies earned the helpers.

After the Americans' first goal, Everett went on to score 5 unanswered markers. Moises Gutierrez, while on a power play at 4:46, picked up a loose puck and flipped it into the net to tie the game up at one a piece. Almost five minutes later at 9:41 Taylor Ellington let one sail from the left point to put the Silvertips up by one. At 12:26 Zach Hamill waited on the doorstep to make in 3-1, while on a power play. Then at 12:42 with the Silvertips having an extra man advantage, Gutierrez hit home again after he caught a rebound off of a Peter Mueller shot to end the period at 4-1. Everett's 3rd, 4th and 5th goals broke the franchise record for the fastest three goals scored. Previously at 6:03, these three goals were scored in 2:59.

In the second Kyle Beach scored the lone goal for either team, his marker coming at 15:02, again while Everett was on a power play. After five unanswered goals, Tri-Cities made an attempt at a recovery but it just wasn't enough. At 38 seconds of the third Erik Felde made it 5-2 after his shot deflected off a stick and into the net behind Leland Irving. Juraj Valach and Colton Yellow Horn tallied the assists. Then with just under four minutes left Colton Yellow Horn tallied the final goal of the game, while his team was short-handed.

Tallying assists for Everett tonight were Peter Mueller with four, Zach Hamill and Jason Fransoo with two and Eric Doyle with one. Leland Irving made 28 stops on 31 shots and bumps his record to 16-2-0-1. Chet Pickard started the game for the Americans but was pulled after Everett scored their fourth goal at 12:42 of the first period. He made 8 saves on 12 shots but earns the loss and falls to 6-3. Carey Price, Tri-Cities' veteran goaltender, played the remainder of the game and stopped 14/15 Everett shots. On the power play the Silvertips scored on 4/13 while the Americans converted on 1/12. Everett's opponents out shot them 31-27 in the hockey game.

The Everett Silvertips now travel to Portland on Saturday, December 2nd, to face off against another division rival, the Portland Winterhawks. The game begins at 7:30pm at the Memorial Coliseum.
