7-1 for WPG tonight. Not much better than yesterday. Obviously we not at the same level as the Ice. The missing players will get us closer to them but we ain’t beating them this year. No gloom and doom just yet. Will see what happens when we play other teams with a full lineup.very depleted lineup last night. Not a recipe for success.
I don't know, with a full lineup and these kids get to settle in they wont be that far behind the ice. I believe even with Ward they will need another veteran on the back end. I would keep Salame over Nychuk personally . He's better in his own end . Patience will be Key with this team. Gasper seems like a GM not scared to make moves so if they struggle there will be changes.
I agree. It is a long season and once the young guys get better acclimated to the league and have a full year of development together with getting everyone back healthy eventually (going to be a long time without Chiasson unfortunately though), this team could still be a contender by the end of the year. This extra playing time for the young guys early on will hopefully develop them better for when it truly matters at the end of the year, as long as their confidence doesn't get shattered. They won't be near as short handed by the end of the week hopefully, so that should help with having closer games and not having to worry about the confidence issue as much.
We will see how things progress but yes this team will be a work in progress especially until it’s all hands on deck. The health of the team is a bit of a concern as the injury list is quite long. Not sure it’s a great idea playing short handed for too long as this leads to fatigue and other injuries. Yes giving the young guys lots of playing time is very good going forward as long as their confidence is not shot. I kind of figured we would have a tough time with the Ice so will reserve judgment until we play the other eastern teams.
Any idea how long chiasson and kallionkeili are out?
Not sure but I understand Chaisson is out long term. The others—-do not know.
Went to Fri game vs PA. Much better effort tonight but PA is not the WPG Ice for sure. Big difference tonight with Greig and Salame in the lineup. Impressed with the games of Trembecky, Johnson,Turner, Thornton, and Mantei all really young guys with upside. Ritchie and Ginnell were good. Of course Danielson, Greig and Iorio who are arguably the best players on the team were very good. Dube showed some toughness. Was surprised at the sparse crowd. I think the team is entertaining to watch and will slowly improve as the year progresses. Not sure what the team should do about the OA situation. If Kallionkelli cannot stay healthy he needs to go as he is a “2 spotter” and because he occupies 2 spots he is of no use to the team sitting on the sidelines. The team cannot wait on him to get healthy as he is not an impactful enough player who is certainly unproven.
I agree with Kallionkieli. He is a walking bandaid. Must be made of glass. First game for me this year. Not bad game. Some long passes not making it through and causing turn overs. That will need to stop. Maybe we will see Ward tonight
The theme in all 3 home games so far: we can't make a breakout pass to save our lives!
