Brandon, Manitoba -- The captain of the Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings will be joining some pretty select company Tuesday night when he takes to the Brandt Centre ice in Regina.
20-year old Thompson product Teegan Moore will become one of only eight players in franchise history to reach the 300-game plateau when the Wheat Kings take on the fourth place Pats.
A fifth round draft choice of the Wheat Kings in 2001 (85th overall), Moore will move into a tie with Randy Ponte for seventh place on the club's all time list for games played and to within two games of former captain and current member of the National Hockey League's Tampa Bay Lightning, Ryan Craig.
Only five other players have suited up in a Wheat Kings' uniform for at least 300 games. They include Dale McMullin (309), Aaron Goldade (310), Tim Konsorada (311), Lance Monych (319) and current assistant coach Dwayne Gylywoychuk, who holds the franchise record of 323.
The 48th captain in club history broke into the WHL as a 16-year old rookie in the fall of 2002, after spending a season playing with the Norman AAA midget North Stars. During his rookie season, Moore scored twice and added seven assists and 64 penalty minutes in sixty games.
Moore, who recently surpassed the 100-point plateau in his Western League career, enters Tuesday night's game with four goals and 14 points in 36 games during the 2006-07 campaign.
A member of the Manitoba team that competed at the 2003 Canada Winter Games in New Brunswick, Moore enjoyed a career year last winter, scoring twenty goals and 43 points in 68 games.
A big fan of both Jarome Iginla and the NHL's Calgary Flames, Moore is one of three overage players on this year's club, joining the likes of Mark Derlago and Jeff Topilko.
While Derlago enters the week sitting in fourth place in the WHL with 26 goals, Topilko led Brandon in scoring in December, scoring five goals and 11 points in twelve games.
Tuesday's game will be the fifth meeting of the season between these two clubs, with Brandon winning just one of four games so far. The latest was a 3-0 decision New Years Day in Regina - a game that saw netminder Linden Rowat turn aside 34 Brandon shots including 27 through the first two periods of play.
Brandon enters the week sitting atop the Eastern Division standings with a record of 21-14-2-5, good for 49 points and a five point cushion on the second place Swift Current Broncos. Third place Prince Albert is eleven points behind while the Pats are currently sitting fourth with a 16-21-1-3 record and coming off a 6-2 victory over the Broncos on Saturday night.
Following a Friday night game in Prince Albert, the Wheat Kings will return home to host Seattle on Saturday night - Source for Sports / Subway Family Night.
In other WHL news, Swiss scoring star Juraj Simek is expected to arrive back in Brandon later tonight after spending the past month in Europe, representing his country at the world junior hockey championship in Sweden. Despite missing Brandon's last eight games, the Vancouver Canucks' draft choice remains second in goals among first year players in the WHL this season. Simek's 2 goals are one behind Kirrill Starkov of the Red Deer Rebels. The Slovakian born right-winger has 40 points in 32 games.
