    T-BIRDS SQUEAK BY AMERICANS

Bud Holloway gets game-winner in 3-2 overtime win over Tri-City
SEATTLE, February 11, 2007 - The Seattle Thunderbirds beat the Tri-City Americans 3-2 in overtime Sunday night in front of 4,635 at KeyArena.

Bud Holloway scored two goals on the night, including the game-winner at 1:59 of the overtime period. Thomas Hickey fired a one-timer from the point that sailed through traffic and was knocked down by Americans Goalie Carey Price. Aaron Gagnon managed to get his stick on the puck for shot attempt, but was denied by Price. The puck fell to the ice in the left crease and flirted with the goal line, but it took the stick of a diving Holloway to poke it past Price for the power-play goal and game-winner. With the assist, Gagnon increases his point streak to five games.

The Thunderbirds are 25-19-2-11, with 63 points in the race for the U.S. Division. The T-Birds are three points behind the Spokane Chiefs for third in the division.

The Americans (34-19-1-1) got on the board first at 19:57 of the first period on a goal from Shaun Vey. Michael Kaye and Aaron Boogaard had the assists.

The T-Birds tied the game 1-1 at 2:59 of the second period on the fourth goal of the year from Josh Schappert. Radek Meidl led the two-on-two break with Schappert on his left. Meidl centered the puck to Schappert skating into the crease. Schappert faked left with the puck, and then elected to take the puck behind the net, from right to left, and wrap it around the post for the score.

The T-Birds grabbed the lead at 5:32 of the second on a power-play goal from Holloway. Holloway slapped the puck in past Price for his 22nd goal of the year. Assists went to Jan Eberle and Thomas Hickey. With the helper, Eberle improves his assist-streak to three games.

Seattle outshot Tri-City 14-6 in the second. The T- Birds led 25-13 through two periods.

The Americans made it 2-2 at 3:19 of the third period on a goal from Drew Hoff. Kruise Reddick and Chris Inglis had the assists.

It's too bad we couldn't squeak by last night. How do you think we'll do in playoffs considering we'll most likely be playing Tri-Cities?
