    Default actually

You can't see what started it on either link. Hamill skates off the picture to the right and all you see is Beach's shove, then Beach getting hit and then everything else. You never see what happened previous to that.

All that being said, the director of officiating was in attendance at that game, so I guess we still wait. I thought we'd know by now, with a game tomorrow, who got what.

    Default Blackwater

    Tips Players Suspended = 2
    Chiefs Players Suspended = 2
Fines - Both team got $2500.

The only differene in all this is Beach got one game, Blackwater got THREE. If I had to figure out a reason, I'd say they both got one game for "starting it". Blackwater gets the extra time served because no matter how hard the refs tried to pull him back, he just kept going after it. That's also why he got the double game misconduct.

I'm just glad there wasn't more to come out of this. Both teams will just be playing a couple players short. Chiefs will have to stretch the series to the 6th game in Spokane for Blackwater to see any more time in this one. I think that is very possible. Th etwo games were pretty evenly played. A couple bounces here and there and this one is 1-1 or 0-2.

I'm not sure if 100 bounces here or there would have made a difference with Irving in net. He's been outstanding in this series.

As far as the suspensions, I thought they were about right from what I have heard from several people at the game (never did see what happened myself). I was suprised though that both Campos and Wall got 2 games for the fight. I thought one would have been fine.

No action taken against Hammil? Wow, hard to believe since it was his poor judgement that was the root cause of all of this in the first place.

    Default Hmm

Well, I didn't think Hamill would get anything. Overzealous celebration has never been a penalty before. Bad judgement for skating too clase to an Ams player, sure. But I would argue the "root" cause of it wasn't his celebratory act. Not very sportsmanlike? Yep. Would he do it again? I'd hope not. But in football players celebrate TD's in other teams faces (just recently they just started calling "taunting" penalties for this). In baseball guys who hit Homers walk to first pitch watching their ball showing up the pitcher. After you see a collision at the plate you see the catcher show the ball to the guy who ran into him or "spike" it at their feet. Are all of these a little classless? yeah. Does anyone get suspended from them? Nope. But if that guy who got the ball soiked in his face jumps up and throws an elbow at the "classless" guy...who you think is getting the suspension? The guy that threw the elbow.

In my mind, the league got this one right. the two guys who actually fought both got two games. Beach got a game for coming in late (3rd man in if you will) and Blackwater got 3 games for the "initial" hit and for keeping it up after the refs and his team mates kept trying to pull him off. Had he just leveled the first blow and them gotten out of there, he'd of got one game as well.

How about Reekie for a 3rd man in? just after the melee starts, watch Reekie.

    Default Losing my mind

I've posted so many things on this subject I'm losing track of them. In one of them somewhere I said I thought Reekie would be suspended. I was surprised he wasn't. Not for the 3rd man in, but because he seemed to be inciting a lot of action. He waved his arms at the crowd and was screaming at some of the Chief players. Just adding to the mayhem. I thought maybe he should have got something. But then, if your going to suspend everyone who did "anything" than both teams would be skating 10 guys short (well actually 14 because all but the 6 guys per team on the ice could have technically been suspended for coming off the bench).

If Reekie really was the 3rd man in, and the league didn't do anything about it....WOW.

I've noticed a few things the league has missed/done lately that just isn't right. I wrote them an email asking for clarification on where they stand with some stuff. Hope to hear from them soon.

    Default Game 3 tonight!

    Beach, Campos suspended
Two Chiefs also benched after Saturday night's fracas

    By Nick Patterson
    Herald Writer

EVERETT - When the first-round Western Hockey League playoff series between the Everett Silvertips and Spokane Chiefs resumes in Spokane tonight, both teams will be a little lighter - both up front and in the wallet.

Both teams had two players suspended and were also fined by the league Monday, punishment for the bench-clearing scuffle that ensued after Saturday's Game 2 was over.

For Everett, right wing Brandon Campos was suspended for two games and left wing Kyle Beach for one. The team was also fined $2,500.

For Spokane, center Judd Blackwater was suspended for three games and center Mitch Wahl for two games. The Chiefs were also fined $2,500.

Neither team was happy about the punishment handed out.

"That's crazy," Everett coach Kevin Constantine said. "You can't go after a player that's celebrating an overtime goal. All we were doing was going over to celebrate with our guys. We were just going to celebrate and our guy got drilled. I don't know how we get punished for that."

"It's difficult," a guarded Spokane general manager Tim Speltz told the Spokane Spokesman-Review. "The suspensions aren't what I expected."

The incident in question happened after Everett's Zach Hamill scored the overtime game winner Saturday, giving the Tips a 3-2 victory and 2-0 series lead. Hamill skated over to the boards in celebration, with his teammates streaming off the bench to join in.

Hamill's path took him near Blackwater, who gave Hamill a pop in the face. Beach retaliated by shoving Blackwater from behind, and things escalated from there. The Chiefs also came off the bench, putting all 40 players on the ice at the same time. Campos and Wahl broke away from the group and fought. (here is why Blackwater got three games) Blackwater, after being escorted away by a linesman, came back and eventually started swinging at Everett's Jesse Smyke while Smyke was down on the ice.

"They just got their OT goal and I'm skating up the boards and I see Hamill, backed by 10 to 15 Silvertips coming at me," Blackwater told the Spokesman-Review about his role in the incident. "I panicked, kind of, and I gave him a little shot and after that ... I can't even remember what happened after that. From my blindside, someone came over and pretty much ran me over. After that, it was just chaos."

Beach gave his perspective: "I just came off the bench and there was tons of excitement. I was following Hamill and saw a punch go right in his face from Blackwater. The first instinct is to protect (Hamill) and stand up for him, being one of our leading scorers. I gave Blackwater a bump and things just kind of went from there. You hate to see it, but luckily nobody got hurt.

"I didn't think the suspension was exactly warranted," Beach added. "I really only bumped into him once. The league felt it was severe enough for suspension, though. I guess if I hadn't done that none of it would have started. But we'll just take it in stride. Hopefully we can move on and get past it."

While Blackwater and Beach were suspended for their roles in instigating the incident, Campos and Wahl received automatic suspensions for fighting after a completed game.

The suspensions change the dynamic of Games 3 and 4 tonight and Wednesday, respectively, in Spokane. Beach was Everett's third-leading scorer during the regular season, and Campos was part of a fourth line that was effective Saturday. Meanwhile, Spokane will be without two of its top eight forwards.

Monday's fine also adds to what's been an expensive season for the Tips. The fine was Everett's sixth of the season, including a league record $5,000 for the preseason busgate incident and $2,000 from the March 2 altercation at the Everett Events Center between fans and the Portland bench. In total, the Tips have been fined $11,250 this season. That's more than the rest of the league combined ($8,250).
