KENNEWICK, WA - Back in the friendly confines of the Toyota Center, the Tri-City Americans (1-1-1-0) picked up right where they left off last season. Paced by Erik Felde's three-point night, Tri-City skated to a 4-1 victory over the Seattle Thunderbirds (0-4-0-0) in game 2 of the Red Lion Hotels Pre-Season Tournament.

Tri-City got the scoring started in the first period, as Taylor Procyshen recorded his first goal of the pre-season at the 11:41 mark. The lead stood until the 9:32 point of the second period, when Seattle's Sena Acolatse, on the power play, beat Tri-City goaltender Kyle Birch to tie the game at 1-apiece.

However, in the third period, the Americans registered three goals to put the game out of reach for Seattle. Tri-City's Petr Stoklasa netted a power play goal at the 7:40 mark of the period. Then, four minutes later, Felde collected his first goal of the pre-season. Finally, with 43 seconds remaining in the contest, Cody Wutzke fought through the Seattle defense and recorded an empty-net goal to cap the scoring in the contest.

Birch, who started the game in goal, finished the night with 17 saves on 18 shots. Chet Pickard relieved Birch midway through the second period and stopped all 6 shots he faced. Meanwhile, Seattle's Jacob DeSerres picked up 19 saves on 23 shots.

Tri-City will now prepare to face the red-hot Spokane Chiefs, tomorrow, September 8 at the Toyota Center in Kennewick. Game time is 7:00 PM. Seattle will get a day off before returning to the ice on Sunday, September 9 when they take on the Portland Winter Hawks. Game time is 3:00 PM. KENNEWICK, WA -The Spokane Chiefs offense has been rolling thus far this pre-season and Friday afternoon's game was no exception. Mitch Wahl notched two goals and the Chiefs improved to 4-0 in exhibition play this year, as Spokane (4-0-0-0) cruised to a 5-1 victory over the Portland Winter Hawks (0-3-0-0) in Game 1 of the 2007 Red Lion Hotels Pre-Season Tournament at the Toyota Center.

The Chiefs struck first in the contest, as Tyler Johnson beat 'Hawks goaltender Jordan White at the 12:12 mark of the first period. However, Portland answered back with three seconds remaining in the period. Off assists from Matt Schmermund and Scott Gabriel, the 'Hawks' Luke Walker tied the game at 1 headed into the first intermission. But, it was the only offense Portland could muster against Chiefs net minder Kevin Armstrong.

The Chiefs put the game away in the third period after goals from Wahl and Chris Langkow made it a 5-1 contest. Armstrong finished the night with 27 saves on 28 shots faced, while White stopped 32 of the 37 shots he saw.

    September 08, 2007

    Dan Mulhausen Tri-City Americans

KENNEWICK, WA - The Portland Winter Hawks' Nick Hotson registered four goals and the 'Hawks' offense erupted for seven goals as they downed the Everett Silvertips (1-2-1-0) in overtime, 7-6, in Game 3 of the Red Lion Hotels Pre-Season Tournament at the Toyota Center.

The first period was more like a game of ping-pong, as the two teams exchanged goals twice in the period. The 'Hawks' Tristan King notched Portland's first goal just 1:13 into the contest. But, two and a half minutes later, Everett's Brennan Sonne quickly tied the score at 1. Then, Hotson recorded his first goal of the game with 2:27 remaining in the period. However, while playing short-handed, the 'Tips' Lukas Vartovnik evened the game again at 2 going into the first intermission.

The second period proved to be the Hotson show, has he tallied three of Portland's goals in the frame. However, thanks to two power play goals from Everett's Kyle Beach and Matt Ius, the 'Tips were down 5-4 headed into the third period.

Everett answered quickly in the third period, as Everett's Jesse Burt collected a goal only 1:10 into the period. Still, Portland responded a minute later as Matt Sokol gave the 'Hawks the lead, 6-5. Then, with 30 seconds remaining in regulation, Vartovnik sent the game into overtime with his second goal of the night.

Then, 1:20 into the overtime frame, Portland's Tyler Swystun ended the contest and gave the 'Hawks their first win in the 2007 pre-season. For Portland, starting goaltender Kurtis Mucha finished with 11 saves on 14 shots. Mucha was pulled in favor of Jordan White, who collected 16 saves on 19 shots. Meanwhile, Everett's Shayne Barrie stopped 22 of the 29 shots he faced.

Both teams will remain in town, as Portland faces off against the Seattle Thunderbirds at 1:00 PM. Then, Everett takes on tournament host Tri-City to wrap-up the competition. Game time is 5:00 PM. Tickets are available at the Toyota Center box office, or by visiting Ticketmaster online at www.ticketmaster.com
