Offense Abundant In Shutout Win
Gendur leads the way with 5 points
Everett Silvertips Press Release
Prince George, B.C. - The Everett Silvertips shutout the Prince George Cougars 6-0 in their Western Hockey League game on Wednesday night, January 23rd, at the CN Centre in Prince George. Dan Gendur scored twice and added three assists to put up five points and Leland Irving earned his 5th shutout of the season; the 20th of his career. Everetts record bumps up to 28-20-0-2 (58 pts.). They remain third place in the U.S. Division and fifth in the Western Conference.
The Silvertips started their scoring in the game's early moments when Tyler Skauge picked up his first career goal at 2:02. Gendur controlled the puck away from the left wing boards in the Prince George zone and fed a pass low to Skauge. The first shot was stopped by Cougars goaltender Ian Curtis, but Skauge put in his own rebound. That Gendur assist began what would be a combined 12-point night for top line of Gendur, Zach Hamill, and Clayton Bauer.
Everett virtually ended the game in the second period with four goals. First, it was Gendur at the 34-seconds mark from the top of the left circle. Following that was Hamill at 3:14 after stealing the puck on a vigorous forecheck with Gendur. Bauer then got in on the act while on a power play at 8:25 which prompted the home team to pull Cutis in exchange for Real Cyr. The new net minder was welcomed into the game by Gendur who put in his second goal of the night; also being his fourth point.
Gendur added his fifth point on Bauer's second at 12:08 of the third to complete the offensive barrage and in doing so becomes the first Silvertip this season to have five points in a game. The rest of the way it was Irving's chance to shine with several big saves to preserve the shutout which places him in a three way tie for second place on the all-time Western League career shutout list. Between himself and teammate Shayne Barrie, the two Everett goaltenders have stopped 131 of their last 135 shots faced. Contained within those numbers is a current streak of 37 consecutive penalty kills for the team.
The Silvertips will remain in PG for another game tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. They then head south to finish off the week with a road game on Saturday night in Seattle. Game time at Key Arena against the Thunderbirds is set for 7:05 p.m.
